Accident :(

Feel really dumb, just backed into my parents Jeep in their driveway - was pitch black (they live in the country) and I was backnig up and smashed my rear end into it.....

So now my rear bumper, driver side tail is messed up, rear quater is slightly bent and trunk floor/bumber support is bent.

Question to you guys - if the rear quarter on a 2002 needs to be reaplaced - how do they do it? Do they cut it off at the roof or what? Seems like it is a one piece deal isn't it?

Thanks! I will post pics once I get them.........

sorry but that was real stupid....don't you look behind as you reverse!? rearview and sideview mirrors aren't enough when backing up..you are supposed to look over. but neways...rear quarter panels are not replaceable...that is body work that is going to need to be done...that is why quarter panels are one of the most expensive areas to repair on a car compared to a replaceable part i.e. a front fender.

Yea, when the cop came over to write up the report we told him that the deer ran into it , that did not fly

Get yourself some brighter reverse lights. And not a good idea to tell cop a deer hit it. It's a crime to file a false report.....

What makes you think that quarter panels are not replaceable? Any body part is replaceable. Whether it comes from a parts place or a salvage yard, it is replaceable. There are times when a panel is too badly damaged to repair and they have to be replaced.

I was looking through parts catalogs on line and they do have a rear quater as a part number, so I think you are right - it can be replaced. Good deal!

I was not saying that yours needed to be replaced. I was simply saying that if it is damaged beyond economical repair, it would have to be replaced. If the car got broadsided for instance.

usually they just pound it back and smooth it out, the part that you must decide is whether to repaint the whole part including roof, or to blend it where the paint is mismatched... usually darker colors the blend wont affect much... its the lighter colors u need to make sure they do a good job on. The blending wont really show until a few years later... the fade from the older paint will slightly show... i ahd this problem before...

If damage is too big, they cut off the hole rear panel off by the curve angle and well on a new panel, Then they put putty it and they sand it out. Like, tedd said no matter how a good the is Job, after two years you can see the two part that is connected. I think the hole job cost about 7k.

I just found this diagram, and I am hoping I can get away with replacing just # 2,3,6 and the piece that is between the bumper and the trunk.
