Run with blown LT1 Firebird

I had this nice dream Saturday night. I was crusing over a bridge in Tampa when this supercharged LT1 pulls up next to me and downshifts. So i reply by downshifting into 2nd around 45. He gets the jump and pulls out 1/2 a car, i then hit it and catch up to him. I shift to 3rd and its dead even. He let off at about 110 with us being even. I was impressed with my max and i bet he felt like ****.

mods: injen cai, 75 shot

So you're saying you beat a car with 275 hp stock PLUS a supercharger....S-trim vortech is 20 lbs of boost. With a T-trim vortech (13lbs) the LT1 makes about 540 hp....so you're saying you beat a car running upwards of 550hp. don't think so.

well since you admitted that you really did STREET RACE a "blown LT1 Firebird" i have 2 things for you.

1. streetracing and talking about it on a public forum is illegal

2. one more time

A bone stock LT-1 powered F-body will run 14.5's, add blower running 5 lbs of boost and you'll probably be good for low 13's or so.

Oh wait, I see. When you were racing this 400+ hp (assuming only 5psi) machine, he was going in reverse. That's makes more sense. No way you hang with a SC LT1 in a 45 to 110 drag. He would own you on top end.....

Just admit it, you got by mr. Vortech LT1.....

he meant that the firebird with blower would run low 13s
NOT YOU
and how does your 8.5 work out to 13.3??? what did you do 8.5 in?
and since you dont list your mods (probably cause you dont have any) what do you have that would make you run low 13s?? (besides the firebird pushing you)

Well, now he claims to have a 75 shot of nos, I take it. Perhaps he could win in a race like that. But even though that LT1 might get bad gas mileage, a full tank of gas will last much longer than any oversized tank of nos.

Jason, do you recall ANY of the 30+ (many heavily modded) maximas at MIR last week running a 13.3 quarter? I sure don't.

Buddy, with just a CAI you would have to drop your whole 75 shot just to run high 13's.....

Youe 1/8 mile time has nothing to do with your 1/4 mile time. Even if you could be with him at 1/8th a mile he has much stronger top-end pull with a supercharged V-8 and would therefore post significantly quicker 1/4 mile times. And why wouldhe be running 5psi at the track when his s-trim vortech can run 20psi for 500+ hp?

Look, if you're gonna post a kill keep it realistic at least.....so maybe someone will believe you...

Guys don't be so mean maybe it did really happen and he is just bending the truth we all do it. This probelly what happened.

Tally Max is driving and the firebird pulls up (got that part of the story right) He drops in to 3rd (as you said) and you drop into second. He can't stop laughing at you that his foot misses the accelerator and hits the brake. So it only appears that you keep up with him, and then he hits the gas and he is gone (that is were the truth got mistruded) So moral of the story DON'T LIE ABOUT **** THAT ISN'T TRUE WE CAN PRETTY MUCH TELL IF IT IS OR ISN'T

I checked the MIR thread...fastest MIR time from opening day looks to be Requin6 in his '96 maxima, with every mod in the universe, including SC, CAI, BOV, upgraded FI, Ypipe and everything else.

He ran a 13.4 @109.9

Other best runs were TAPOUT running a 13.9 with a 50 shot (as I recall) in his '99
and Jay_Pee99 running a 14.1 in his 2k2/3....

I'm surprised this thread hasn't been locked. I owned a modded LT1 prior to my Maxima and you know what....I believe him.

1) Anything can happen on the streets. Since there is no timer, reaction time makes or breaks a race. You can't tell the difference between reacting .5 seconds slower/faster than the other guy, but the calibrated equipment at the track can. That .5 second slower/faster reaction time can mean 4 cars by the end of the track. In 45-110mph race, it could be 2 cars and this is assuming the cars have the same power to weight.

2) Nitrous is FAR more effective at lowering ET and adding MPH than a centrifugal blower like a Vortech/Procharger/Paxton. A 75hp shot of nitrous will add ~60-65whp and a whopping 100-110wtq. A 5lb centrifugal blower will add about 65-70whp and 50-60wtq to a LT1. Torque is key.

3) Power to weight owns. A 4th gen with a y-pipe, intake, and a 75 shot has a power to weight ratio of around 11.8:1 (245fwhp). The LT1 Firebird with a 5lb blower (~310rwhp) has a ratio of around 11.4:1. Factor in the HUGE amount of torque the Maxima is making for it's weight and it's definately clear to me that both these cars can run each other.

A 5lb blower on an LT1 really doesn't do much. Add a 10-12lb blower, better headgaskets, blower cam, rockers, full exhaust, PCM tune, 4.11 gears, 12-bolt rear, and slicks then you're talking lights out for nearly every other car on the road.
