I understand most Maximas are automatic transmissions, including the SEs. Do you shift your AT often as if it is a stick? I rarely do, except when I drive in the snow I may shift to D2 or to D1 when I need to go up a snowy hill.

In snow D is better cause of lower RPMs. IMO.

Automatic transmission- automatically shifts gears for you
Manual transmission- you have to shift gears yourself

Seems straight forward to me.

If you think fun is moving your hand back and forth may I suggest an alternative sport.

People who dont want to go really fast drive the more primitive transmissions.

that is mostly true for 2k2-k3 but in 2k-2k1, they make peak hp at redline. the tcm sets it shift at around 5.8-6k for most shifts so manually shifting allows peak hp and will set you in a higher rev for the next shift.

All of my Max's (95 GXE, 97 SE, 02 SE) shifted at approx 6300 so for me manually shifting usually produced slower runs, never faster.

i wish i was that lucky. i was hoping when the tcm was replaced that the shift points would have adjusted but it didnt happen. i know its only a couple of hundred rpms but they make a difference when you make peak at redline.

i sometimes down shift to slow down, or to speed up to pass another car, so i guess it can be used as a manumatic? i wished we had that option....
