it twists off. It just takes a lot of force to get it off at first....i almost thought it was glued on.

If you take your shifter **** off, I would plan to have a new one to put on. Seriously.

The **** does screw on but it is also taped/glued on the inside. I had to cut the cover off and the rubber of the **** off to get to the spot where it screws on.

I tried pliers, strap wrenches etc to squeeze the **** enough to get it off all to no avail.

Just cut it off and replace.

See you have a 5spd, its a bit different. For the auto's you just need to twist as hard as humanly possible and it will come off. I reused my stock ****. I just replaced it for a week, and didn't like how the new one felt. It went on smooth, I don't remember seeing glue.

seriously? mine comes off at will. in my 95 i ended up wrapping the **** in a dish towel and then used a pair of pliers. it took me all of 5 minutes.
