anyone replace the white bulbs in the back with something brighter? it helps with visibility when you're backing up.

 

I replaced mine with PIAA Xtreme White.

Most of the bright white-shining bulbs will do that blue relectiveness - I have the Polarg M6B1 bulbs - they are VERY bright at night and shine white, not yellow. But they do reflect blue at certain angles in the sunlight...Here's some pics, just in case you change your mind.

 

Basically, what irish said.... not noticably brighter.... but ppl from outside can tell it's aftermarket and it's giving out much more WHITE light. PIAA Xtreme White does have a slight blue hue as seen from outside. Hope this helps.

The Polargs are 18W compared to the stock bulbs which are 13W. So theoretically, the Polargs are about 38% brighter if my math serves me. From inside the car they DEFINITELY look brighter, no question about it.

 

Superwhite bulbs look blue in the day (I don't like that) and don't work as well as regular bulbs.

I also wonder which clear halogen bulb would be brighter than stock...let me know if you find out!

do we have to have a "reverse-bulb competition"?

 

Meaning: not as bright. Same concept as fogs. Yellowish light works better than white or bluish light for visibility.

 

For headlights that may be the case - since yellowish light penetrates better. But in the case of the back-up bulbs, which only need to shine 10-20 feet tops, I disagree. The backup bulbs I have in there now have FAR BETTER(perhaps I did not stress this earlier) illumination than the stock bulbs. Now, is that because they are 18W not the OEM 13W...probably. But doesn't matter to me, as long as I can see better out the back (which i definitely can)....I park at work in a dark garage and parallel park at home (usually at night) so I notice these things.....

 

I hear you about the distance thing, but with white light you can't see depth or contours in the road, etc... I would think a brighter-than-stock clear halogen bulb would work much better.

I haven't tried it personally, but I trust Soundmike's opinion. I remember he tried Xtreme Whites and immediately switched back to stock because they just weren't as good...

 

I have PIAA Xtreme White reverse lights and yeah you can't see **** when backing up with my 18% tint adding to it. The bulbs look pretty blue from behind the car. Going to school one day some really old cop pulled me over, but that was the only problem I've had. He thought they were blue bulbs and made me put the car in reverse to show him that they were white and not blue...... I don't see how he could have given me a ticket anyway since they weren't on.

I must say that the Polarg M6 are probably the brightest. They emit more light outwards than stock and might avoid an accident from happening ie. getting rear-ended while going reverse. Here's some pics

How many watts are the Xtreme whites? are they 18W lke the Polarg's?

 

What size is the reverse bulb on the maxima?

As I am thinking of getting LED's for the reverse lights just like I got the LED's for my clear corners. The LED's light up so much brighter and sweeter. I had amber and red bulbs in my clear corners and they looked tacky, especially the red one after awhile turning pink. `Plus they didn't light up the lense completly! So when I put the LED's in, they lit of the clear corners better then if there was a red lense and amber lense on the car.

 

I believe M-6 is the size...

 

What's a good place to get polargs?

You can get them online on ebay, do a search for "Polarg M-6" or "Polarg M6" which ever works. And yes DamNScuM, they do look like reverse hid's . Irish, they are 18v.

 

Actually, they are 12v and 18w as you can see on the photo of the package that I posted at the top. I know you just typed it wrong but I'm gonna bust you anyways

polarg m6 is the way to go. i like the blue hue in the daytime.

 

After reading this entire post I see no mention of the 18W polargs lamps in the reverse lights being to hot compared to the stock 13W. Anyone heard or experienced these issues?

Also thinking about the polarg M-4's for the white lights in the headlight assembly. Anyone else do this? If so is it working out OK?

Last time I ran my hand on the tail lamp, while reverse lights on, it did feel hot. But normally, people shift in reverse for a few seconds and the lights aren't on all the time. Should do any damage IMO. When I took the pics, they were on for at least 5-8 minutes and nothing happened, hope this helps.

Thanks Guy's... I'll be doing the foglight rewire, foglight bulb changes, reverse light changes, and headlight white marker light changes. That is of course if the weather ever breaks here in NE...

Yeah Whistler is awesome...been up there a couple times. Back on car topic: I love the drive between Vancouver and Whistler, would LOVE to take the Maxima up there some day!!
