havent been on this board in a LONG time, however

chalk up another auto trans failure for the 5th gens

2002 maxima GLE

23,300 miles on the odo

shop said when the opened up the tranny, the fluid was all cooked and components inside were messed up

and apparently trannys are now on backorder.

reading over some new threads, looks like i have a wheel bearing issue
and i still have that stupid bose radio issue as well...

Sorry to hear that. 02' GLE here, recently had a complete flush/svc @~36K. Mechanic stated "no problems, looks great." (who knows what tomorrow will bring?) If it's any consolation at least you are under warranty. Any insight as to the cause (Driving style? Mods? [bad] luck o' the draw?, etc.).

Sorry about your down time. Were there any signs leading up to this?
My auto has a strange decrease in RPM in 3rd gear over various speeds. Had it in today. Was told 'this is normal lock up of the torque converter'.
Thanks
Rob

Just for $hits and giggles, a list should be compiled of 5th gen orgers who have had their auto tranny's replaced due to mechanical failure. The list would be probably be double digits for sure. Mine went at approx 34K miles.

Good luck all with your 5th gen Auto tranny's these seem to be the weakest link on our cars.

My trans has been slipping at 1-2 and I was wondering if there was any other impending signs of doom before the trans poops out. Hopefully it'll stay with me for a couple of more months until I can trade it in and then someone else can worry about it.

Mine cooked at 21k and some change... It cooked last weekend, and Nissan isn't shipping the tranny until tomorrow, so it should be completed by Tuesday the dealer said.

Mine was slipping for about a week and a half, then it randomly slipped trying to go from 2 - 3, at the next red light, it wouldn't go anymore.

it feels like it has a hard time shifting up... like a hesitation or a bucking feeling because it shifted too fast...

When my tranny died, it bucked very hard.... it skipped the CD and then when I stopped, there was a nasty whining sound coming from the transmission... enough to make me cringe

transmission cooler and a brick UNDER (not on top) the gas pedal.

it's sad since supposedly the 2k2+ transmissions are beefed up to eliminate the early slip issues with the 00 01 and better handle the extra hp that came from the .5l extra displacement.

at least its not as bad as the 6 speed manuals... yet.
