just bought a new 2001 GXE 5 speed, I have 26 miles on it.
lets start with the basics. What octane gas should I use? what type of oil should I use on my first oil change. Is there a good manual or service book that can help me get started on the right track?
Thank you!

By the way, congrats on the purchase and welcome!
I always put in 93 octane but I've noticed alot of forum members use 92. Oil change, No need for synthetics until you've put about 60k but that's just my opinion. I didn't find the synthetic oil to be better.
Use the extra money on some cheap mods.

I use 93 octane, and i think it recomends premium for maximum performance. I am using regular 10w-30 right now til i have about 10K on it, and then i am going to switch to synthetic. I haven't got the electronic service manuals yet, but they are a good idea if you want to work on it yourself. Enjoy the car, i love mine.
2K1 SE sterling mist/frost leather, 5 speed, fully loaded.

The middle grade of gas will work fine. I don't notice a lot of difference with the 92 octane in performance.
also a K & N panel filter is good for a cheap 5 extra horsepower and is better than stock or FRAM.
I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic on the second oil change.
Also just rotated my tires at 6,000 miles. If you have the TOYO tires with a rating of 240 for tread wear, they are junk. I recently found out that 35,000 will be pushing it, that's why I will rotate often to stretch out the mileage.
Oil changes you can do your self, but get a penziol filter wrentch with a pivoting handle and just pull down the plastic shroud to get to the filter. Also 4-4.2 quarts are fine, the manual rounded it up to 4.5 which is a little too
much. Also get a star lug wrentch, the factory puts on the lugs so tight you can't get them off with the joke stock wrentch.
Have fun

91 Octane is all you need.... it's what Nissan wants you to use...
Contrary to popular opinion, more octane does NOT equal more power or better gas mileage....
-Tom
PS... in the northeast we only have the choice of 87, 89 or 93.... HINT:: you can mix equal amounts of 89 and 93 to get 91... --OR-- you can just be lazy like me and use 93... (no harm done!!!)
Even tho the knock sensor will allow you to TEMPORARILY use lower octane gas, I would not recommend saving a few pennies on gasoline by using 89 octane.... after all, you just paid $20-30k for your car... give it at least 91 octane!!!

If you're going to work on your car a lot, I suggest getting the service manual from Nissan (Electronic Service Manual).
