if you have an intake that is the only thing i would cover since the filter will soak in the water
they stopped bothering him because now the pic is half the size it used to be

I have a 2k, Stock engine. I go to the car wash and spray some degreaser on it, then hit with the high pressure rinse while it is running, I haven't had any problems or signs of problems, maybe I just been lucky......lol

isn't wd-40 bad on rubber parts, such as hoses, belts, in the long run that is? I know these parts are consumable/replaceable, but isn't there a better solution thatn spraying wd-40? for the hoses I would use rubber/vinyl protectant, but as for the belts...

--------------
don't have snow here but what i do is i use an adjustable nozzle and clean the tranny and block from above, then whipe the rest with a rag. then i detail around the fluid bottles (caps, necks other tight spots). it never gets dirty this way. mostly dust more than anything else.
while at it use a high pressure washer to remove dust and grease around the front CV and inside of the wheels.

Spraying the rubber/vinyl parts with WD-40 may eventually lead to those parts cracking....WD-40 is a very good solvent for removing thicker oils or lubes....besides you guys are probably right, the dust & dirty will stick to them....

yeah dude things are different in Miami than they are in Washington, DC - no doubt! It's all good....we all talk some **** on here but in the end it's all in good fun.
...and this is a good thread - I need to clean my engine after our brutal DC winter of salt, salt, and more road salt!

What I would recommend to use under the hood is a silicone spray to keep all the rubber and plastic parts from drying and cracking, since it is not petroleum based. Most professionals use it to detail the engine bay. I've used it for years and the great thing is that is doesn't collect dust and dirt. My .02

I did this once with Simple Green and a hose...
I made sure the engine was up to full operating temperature, then shut it off and disconnected the negative side of the battery... sprayed Simple Green on most exposed parts, EXCEPT any rubber belts/hoses or electronics, and blasted everything with water, taking care not to get water inside the alternator or the fuel injectors. I blasted everything else though (firewall, backside of the engine, tranny, etc.)
Afterwards I let it sit for a bit, then wiped off the battery and reconnected it. Promptly started the engine and let it sit idle for ~10-20 minutes with the hood open to let it steam.
Afterwards I had little white water spots everywhere. I think next time I'm using a foaming degreaser.
