Question regarding dual exhaust.

So my brother in law has a 350Z, he took the stock exhaust off and replaced it with a true dual Borla exhaust, I was helping him frome his basement the other weekend and saw it still sitting there when I began wondering....would the stock exhaust from a 2003 350Z fit on a 2000 Maxima GXE?

Now, I know at least the bumper would need some modification, and coming back from the headers might be a different diameter.

But I honestly don't know enough of the specs to say for sure.

So my question for all teh gurus here is, do you think you could fit the dual exhaust from a 2003 Z on a 2000 Maxima?

It would be really sweet if you could because one thing I have ALWAYS been bothered by is the lack of dual exhaust on the Maxima, always thought it would look so nice.

Oh and while we are at it, will the rims from a Track model fit on a 2000 GXE Max?

Sorry if these questions are painfully stupid but, I've never looked into it before so I figured no better group of guys to ask.

TIA,
Balthazar

it may fit however the engine is not mounted like the 350z due the fact Maxima is FWD, and the 350Z is RWD. So you have to make some small modification of the exhaust manifold.

Its not a true Dual, therefore, you will get no gains from it.

Seems like a muffler shop should be able to make it fit...

On the 2k and 2k1 Maxima the black box is located where the 2nd muffler would normally stand, so the real problem is to relocate the black box and because it deal with gas it cannot be put in the trunck, so basically you'd have to cut the spare tire room, not unfeasable but on the tough side. It's easier to do a look a like dual exhaust, any muffler shop
can probably do it.

Cheers

So I guess, besides the black box (what exactly is its function, and is moving it too ill advised?) the best way to determine what needs to be done is to put them side by side?

Another thing, on the Z exhaust there is, besides the muffler, a large chamber, I assume its the resonator, where would that fit?

its the evaporative emission system (EVAP)
The EVAP is used to reduce hydrocarbons emitted into the atmosphere from the fuel system. This reduction of hydrocarbons is accomplished by activated charcoals in the EVAP canister. The fuel vapor in the sealed fuel tank is led into the EVAP canister which contains activated carbon and the vapor is stored there when the engine is not operating or when refueling to the fuel tank.

its part of the emissions system so it is illegal to remove and probably illegal to tamper with/move.

with all these problem, it would not be true dual exhaust like on a truck which has room to do it. it would be for looks only so not really worth $700+

Just because they dont have pics of it?
They clearly show a version being sold for 2000-03 model years.

Does anyone have a picture of the way these exhausts actually look not installed on a vehicle?

And where do they put the resonator, or is it just really small?

The resonator goes in the same place as the stock one. I dont have a picture of it not installed, I had it done at a muffler shop. Getting the custom maxima one is just as bad as bending over for them .... Theres no way in hell I'll pay $600 for that thing.... especially considering that flowmaster by itself is only $90. I got mine done for $200, not including the muffler.

for the love of god and baby jesus!!
read the rest of this thread... the answer is.....
in apperance YES
in functionality NO!!!
the pipe has to go around the EVAP and spare tire well. so there are 90 degree curves which restict air flow.
so dual exhaust will be no better then single when it comes to performance
