Distributor cap, rotor and wire

Pardon my ignorance or stupidity, but do we have these things in our engine. And if so, when do they need to be replaced.

No, we have none. Just change your spark plugs. Get a Haynes manual to learn more.

i find it funny people ask questions about things they don't know instead of ****ing reading the answers on their own. a google search or a dictionary would tell you wtf they are for and how they work. goto howstuffworks.com

it will explain how an engine works, which it is obvious you don't know.

oh and as 2k5spd said don't touch or engine bring it to sumone please...

or you next thread will be: "how can i fit this new Distributor cap on my engine!" or "is it really important to change oil i mean hey its bad enough i have to put gas in my car but oil too!"

Our engine use a direct ignition system. The ignition system reads the position of the crank via a holo-graphic sensor and knows when to fire the spark plug. The cap and rotor system uses a manual contact. The rotor button spins inside the cap and touches the lead to the spark plug wire.

Be very glad that we have this ignition, it's MUCH BETTER!

Dont bash the guy for asking the question. Its a lot easier to just post the question, and have one of us , with more knowledge than him just answer it for him...... When I first came on here, I could take apart a 5 liter stang, or an LT1 in my sleep, but knew nothing about imports. I have learned a lot. Cut the guy some slack and stop acting like a know it all .....

Dont' feel bad steelymatt because I was wondering the same thing. My regular maintenace w/ my MR2 was chaning spark plugs along w/ dist cap and rotor. I really didn't know Maxima engines had no dist cap and rotor. Does that mean I don't know about cars? Well, I do most of the work at home including turbo swap, replacing axles, suspension work, brake job, body work and more. I wouldn't be so harsh when other's ask questions which might seem stupid but it's not.

Yeah dude, lay off. I did search on the web. I also use the search on the .org before I post. You'd see a lot stupider questions if I didn't. The only way to learn is by asking stupid questions. Thanks to patient and knowledgeable people on the .org, I've managed to modify and do a lot of the maintenance on my car. Thanks for the answers guys. I just wanted to ask so I didn't look a ******* when I bring my car in for a tune-up.
