I did the fog w/o headlights mod tonight...
Took me longer to gather up the tools than it took to actually perform the wiring.
Here's a pic, sorry for the crappy quality, I was in a hurry when I took it.

Major props to "housecor" for the info and 'how-to'. Very detailed and easy to follow instructions.

His writeup is so thorough that you'd have to be pretty incompetent not to figure it out.
I can see how getting access to the wires under the relay box can be a hassle. I had no problems with any of the clips except for the one on the fender side closest to the front which was being stubborn... then it was SNIP >> TAPE >> SPLICE >> REASSEMBLE. Just getting to the wires is the time consuming part.

The ONLY thing that this mod changes (and housecor listed the behavior in the 'how-to') is that you can turn fogs on with park lights.
The switch still works, they still turn off with high beams, and even if the fog switch is ON, the fogs will turn off when you turn your headlight/park light swtich to OFF (or Auto and it's still daylight).

wildmanal,
I would recommend housecor's route. (see links at top of page). It's so simple and fast, took me a whole 5 min. The hardest part is getting the relay box up so you can access the wires, then it's snip, tape, splice, reassemble. It's REALLY easy.

Hope this helps. I don't feel like writing the whole thing. :lazy polak:
Sorry to kick up an old thread, but I'm having the hardest time getting the relay box to come free from the side wall so I can get to the wires. I hit all the clips mentioned in the how-to but still no luck. Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions?
I just did this last night. The two tabs on the body side are a little hard to get to, once you get something in the small holes that are pointed out, it was easier for me to then pry on the tab from the outside of the box. It pry's up hard so start at the back, closest to the fire wall, slowly prying it up, it doesn't just pop off, work your way to the clips in the middle and do the front last, go slow, it comes up hard.
i didn't have something small enough to fit in the access holes on the body side clips, and was too lazy to get the right tool, so i used my soldering iron to burn through that sh*t, lol ghetto but whatever works i guess.
nice job 00GLE...i wish i had housecor's awesome instructions when i was doing mine..it seems that everyone's having problems with taking the relay box in half which i had the problem too..so instead of trying to break anything i just lifted it up with one hand and got a friend to help me..got it done in 5 minutes. awesome mod to do..plus for those of you that hate how ur front blinkers dimly light up...whether they are the stock ambers or aftermarket whites...you can do a simple *free* mod that makes it so that they only light up when u use the blinkers and are off when u aren't using them which gets rid of that nasty half lit look for hyper white blinkers...just take the bulb out and put a piece of electrical tape on one of the nubs and put the bulb back in..then turn the blinker on and if it blinks then u got the right one..if not then switch to the other nub...enjoy!
here are some pics of mine done...with ebay HILITE "7000k" fogs in them..yes i was desperate and brave enough to try them out...1 month and still going strong..as bright as stock...you decide for yourselves about the color

i love keeping them on during the day as my "drls" so far i havent seen any maxs in south jersey with them..wonder where everyone is??
sorry bout the repeated pic...my computer was being weird last nite...here it is at night.

For people that did this on their 00-01, I need help because housecor's rewire is for 02-03. I tried it and it didn't work plus my stop lights don't light up anymore, only my 3rd brake light lights up when I brake. Here's some pics of the wires from my car.

What did you do different? Please let me know. I'm going crazy.

I did my 2k1 based on http://www.innerbean.com/housecar and did it the same as you, quick splice connecting the yellow wire to the red wire with green stripe out of the brake relay. And all my stop and tails still work fine. I can't remember, did you already have the stalk that had the fog light switch on it, or did you have to install it or wire in an aftermarket?

Can someone please clarify which wire should be spliced and which wire should it be rerouted to.

what i did was tap into the red wire that runs to the front right blinker on the same side as the relay...use the 3M wire tap and just cut the red wire which is the power wire for the right blinker and tap it into there..i'll put pics up later tonight when i get home but its simple and everything else works just fine...blinkers work fine too. i havent heard of splicing it into the rear lights.

It's seems like all the Mod i'd like to look into, the web sites are down or missing. Might be a sign from my wife and my bank at the same time.
Hey I'm doing this mod right now but I'd like my fogs to be able to turn on when I have just my DDE's on, but at the same time I'd like them to turn on when I have my parking lights on if I wish too...Is there anyway to do this?? oohh and I have my DDE's set up to turn on the way that Housecor had on his site.
With the 2000 Maximas ONLY, there's a yellow wire coming from the relay. This is the wire that gets power when the low beam headlights are on.
The yellow wire you will cut (make sure you leave enough length).
On the tail lamp relay, what you're tapping into is the tail running lamp wire, NOT THE BRAKE WIRE. If you're unsure which one to splice to, I'd get a 12v probe or a digital meter and check to see which wire on the tail lamp relay gets power when the park lamps turn on. This is the wire you want to splice to.
I didn't drive my maxima to work today, or I'd run outside and check.
WITH THE 2002-2003s THE FOG LAMP WIRE IS A DIFFERENCT COLOR THAN YELLOW. (If memory serves, I believe it's blue or something, but don't hold me to that.) To check that one, use a 12v probe or volt meter to see which wire from the fog light relay gets power when the low beam headlights AND fog light switch are on. (The same wire should not get power with park lights only, or high beams, or obviously with the lights off).
What I can do tonight if you guys have the patience, I'll look at my maxima when I get home and tell you exactly which wire I tapped into. It's working with no problem, so i believe I did it right.
You guys are going to be shocked like I was at how simple it was to do. Just knowing which wires to splice and which to tap into is all you really need.
If you want I'll take pictures as well.
To get the box up, there are 2 tabs on the engine side of the box you need to gently pry against to get the one side loose. On the fender side, there are 2 little access holes near each corner, there you will need to stick a little screwdriver or something in and wiggle the screwdriver while pulling up on a corner. In the middle between is a little set of hooks that you need to pinch together to release. The fender side is the hardest to get. I worked from left to right across the fender side

I'll throw this together quickly for you guys to look at. Hopefully I can describe it well enough, I will add the missing wire colors later.
FOG LAMP W/OUT HEADLIGHT MOD
GETTING ACCESS TO UNDERSIDE OF RELAY BOX
Tools: Little flat head screwdriver and a little philips head screwdriver (smallest you can find)
1. Locate the relay box on the passenger side of the engine and remove the top cover (keep cover nearby for reference).
2. On the engine side of the box, are 2 tabs. Gently use the flat head screwdriver to release the tabs from the locks. You might have to check periodically from here on in to make sure that the tabs don't lock back in while you're working on loostening the rest of the box.
3. on the fender side of the box near the windshield/fender corner is a tiny square access hole. Stick the tiny philips into that hole and wiggle it around a little while pulling upward on the box until you feel it come up a little.
4. on the fender side toard the center are 2 more little tabs holding the box down. The one on the windshield side you'll need to press toward the front, and the one toward the front you'll need to press toward the windshield, pry them both in toward each other and you should feel the box come up a little more.
5. Last and normally more difficult, there will be another small access hole like the one closest to the windshield (still on the fender side of the box). Stick the philips tip down into it again and work on it the same as in step 3. The access hole releases are more tempermental since you can't see them.
Once that's done, you should be able to get somewhat of an access to the wires underneath.
WIRING
Tools, Blue wire tap, pliers, and wire cutters, electrical tape.
1.
A. On the 2000-2001 Maximas, locate the one and only yellow wire coming from the fog lamp relay (using the cover for reference) and cut it about half way down.
B. On the 2002-2003 Maximas locate the [???] wire coming from the fog lamp relay (using the cover for reference) and cut it about half way down.
2. Tape up the end coming up out of the fender to prevent shorts to ground.
3. Wire tap the yellow wire from the relay to the red w/green stripe and silver dashes wire coming from the tail lamp relay (use cover for reference).
4. Turn on fog light switch and park lights only to verify that correct connections were made.
With the fog light switch ON, the fogs will:
A. Come on with park lights only
B. Remain on with low beam headlights
C. Turn off with high beam headlights
D. Turn off with all lights off.
With the fog light switch OFF, the fogs will not come on at all.

I updated the post above with the correct tail lamp relay wire (red w/green stripe and silver dashes).
I took pics every step I used to gain access to the waires as well. Some of them didn't come out well, if you need clarification on any of them, let me know. You can see them here:

Pablosal - What wires did you splice? Did you splice the yellow wire with TWO silver lines on it from the fog realy to the red wire with the green stripe coming out of the taillight relay?
That wire looks right... (the one you had it connected to).
I looked last night and there are 2 red w/blue wires, one red with green and one yellow with black for the tail lamp. You splice to the red and green.
Check your tail lamp fuse. I think that might be your problem, but I'm not sure. Looks to me like you had it right.
Also, make sure you tape off that bottom yellow wire... if you don't it could short to ground and you'll either blow fuses or burn up the wire and anything else connected to it.

or put HID's in the fogs. but regardless, looks way better then just the courtesy lights on.
