What is the GAB mod?

I did a poor mans yahoo search, but it didnt do anything usefull. I checked the terms list in the sticky FAQ-U, but it didnt tell me much either. i ASSume it has something to do with the stock intake box, from the information i have gathered, but im not sure what exactly. thanks in advance guys.

btw, sorry for all the questions, but i dont want to make the same modding mistakes that i made with my Accord V6 with the Maxima (when i get it), although this is a much better platform to start with

I don't have access to search either...there are some great threads on this topic with pix...but it involves cutting the top of your stock airbox to allow it to suck air through there too. You would cut a small rectangle area out of the top...maybe 1" x 6" or so...exposing the panel filter.

great thanks guys, ive seen that pic before, but im sure it will make more sense to me once i get the maxima and see what the stock airbox looks like.

this mod also creates the most power out of all the intake mods, correct? or so ive read (i think).

I'm assuming that mod only allows the car to breathe better, correct? I would think that sucking in hotter air as opposed to the stock intake may not do much for performance, but I guess that it could balance out. I.e. you're sucking in a combination of warm and cold air and can allow more of a volume into the intake. Right?

I'd be interested in seeing if this mod does actually make a difference. I kinda hate to chop up factory components unless it's definitely worth it.

ok, i dont know what i might have been smoking, but the WAI seemed like it gave the most power, in that intake thread, but i coulda sworn i read that the GAB was an excellent choice. i dunno.

For my 2000 I tried all the intakes available and the GAB seemed to keep the best low end and gave great top end power.

it noticeably increases the sound of the intake under hard accelleration. that's the only time you can hear the difference. as far as performance the car seems to pull a little better under all conditions but don't expect a huge difference. haven't had a long enough evaluation period to guage any effect on gas mileage....but i'll definitely need to keep the (growling intake induced) lead foot effect into consideration.
