Y-Pipe - Is this true?

In talkiing with a fellow org member, he recalled reading about how 5th gens really don't benefit from installing just a y-pipe on your car. He said we won't get much gains, is that correct? Should i not even look to get one?

Also, how good is the Warpspeed, steel y-pipe...i heard they rust alot down here in Florida??? (that's what sparked the conversation)

Yeah its true but only the 2k2-2k3 maxima's. Now if you had a 2k-2k1 max, it'll be a different story. I also believe that the factory y-pipe on the 2k2 is already 2.5 inch wide, and there no room for anything bigger.!!!!!!! The 2k max came with 2.25 on the y-pipe.!!!!!!!!

If I were you go for the Hotshot headers and call it a DAY.!!!!!!!!! Also a good intake...

a y-pipe is the single best mod you can do to an NA car. no other mod by itself increases HP as much.
i have the warpspeed and love it. havent had it long enough to see any rust issues

He's right. A y-pipe on a 3.0 max is one of the best performance aftermarket products that you can get, but with a 3.5 they are almost a waste of money. go with the headers and a catback. I don't know if cattman makes headers for the 3.5's yet, but if he does, getum. The quality of cattman products, in my opinion, are superior to anything else out there. all stainless steel, never have to worry about rust.

this statement would say that the cattman headers are superior to the hotshot headers, correct? I just want verification. the numbers of the hotshots seem nice, but headers in general make for better gains over stock manifolds. Having only seen the pics of the cattman's, and knowing that the hotshots seem to be a pain in the ayass, looks like I will be going the cattman route.

Again here we go with the misinformation of the Y-pipe header debate. It actually is true that 2k2-2k3s don't really benefit from Y-pipes. Now when 3.5s get headers they come alive, this is dyno proven and track proven by John Deere racing(blu and Sr20den), the fastest manual and fastest auto 3.5.......

Next please

Can someone just explain to me how a Y-pipe helps performance, where it goes, and if its a easy mod? Sorry for such a basic question, but have to start somewhere.

Cattman Y have been proven to yield better gains than the warpspeed design....on the 3.5.....not headers type of #'s but significant gains nonetheless....

A y-pipe connects to the headers or manifolds of the exhaust system, the gains are felt by elimination of precats on some and the increase in diameter overall, its helping get the exhaust of the car in a faster motion, thus the engine is working less and it frees up more power.....

Install is not hard just tedious and time consuming, if you aren't too mechanically inclined I suggest you take it to your local exhaust shop

That car didn't use a Y-pipe, it gained the power from 3.0 Cattman headers..... I know Matt and you don't so don't even try to act like you two are cool...

Can someone ban 92 SE-R 02 SE he is being very immature and rude. Plus all he cares about is his track times and Teins. He is a loser. If you want repect for having a fast car why dont you buy a sports car instead of grocery getter? Fake baller.

back on topic now, i agree with most of the conclusions. for the 3.0 the y-pipe is the single best NA mod you can get. On the 3.5 it's not nearly as dramatic, and u should save your money for the headers
