Front Brake Problem

I bought my maxima 2 weeks ago and the brakes are glazing in the front and midas told me it would be about 350 dollars to replace them and re build the calipers or some nonsense like that but the dealer isnt willing to do the job...isnt there some law stating dealers cannot sell a car with defective brakes? i live in texas. and they said that the brakes passed their inspection...so could someone give me some advice on what to do and say.

All you need to do is have the dealer turn the rotors and either scuff (if over 50%) or replace the brake pads.

The only law applicable to used cars in TX is that it pass state inspection requirements (brakes can stop the car.) -- otherwise when you buy a used car (i'm assuming yours was used) you sign an AS-IS meaning you agree to pay for any repairs unless they offer you a 30 day warranty period or you buy an ext. warranty.

Sounds like Midas is trying to run up in you dry. I recommend having the rotors resurfaced and replacing the pads. Should cost around $100 or so. Way less than the 350 that Midas quoted you. While you're at it, might as well have the brake system flushed if your fluid is dark colored.

Better get new rotors and good pads such as the porterfield R4S if you have the OEM rotors now. Once you resurface them those OEM rotors will be toast in no time.

STAY AWAY FROM MIDAS!!! They completely F**ked up my last car. I brought it back like 4 or 5 times and it just kept getting worse.

Id go back to the dealer and try to convince them to do the right thing and fix it for you. The only people touching my car are me and the dealer.
