3.0 engine swap?

I have a 00' max and was wondering if anyone's done an engine swap. Anyone know what engines will fit, and how hard is it to fit the 3.5L?

I don't know if you've thought of any alternatives but the 3.0 liter engine is highly tunable and a turbo or supercharger might be something to think about if you haven't already.

I might be looking to turbo or super sometime in the future. I have ~97k on the motor and was considering buying another, lower milage, motor. So I can take my time and rebuild with forged internals before turboing it.

just SC it - turbo and internals will cost $10K+ while SC would only be like $4K.....Isn't 330+ hp with SC enough.....what are you gonna do with a 400hp turbo maxima?

Isn't it obvious? Torque steer yourself off the road!

If you're afraid your engine is too high mileage to modify then you might want to consider what Irish mentioned and get a whole new car.

get solar panels on the roof to provide extra boost on nice sunny days when you really want to roll the windows down, open the sunroof, and haul ***!

And whats wrong with owning a turbo maxima pushing in excess of 400hp? I seem to enjoy it.

Nothing wrong with it - just a matter than alot of people can't afford it....Jonx your car is sweet no doubt (I always have to show my buddies with STIs that there is a 400hp maxima out there!), but how much did you spend just on turbo/engine components to get it that way? 10K? 15K?

I'm sure I'd enjoy it too! If I had 10K sitting around, I'd probably do the same thing!

But I thought on another thread you said you don't race your maxima or run it at the track anyways....If so...then the question remains "what are you gonna do with 400HP?

haha besides, you know you love being 1 of only a few maximas with the TT.....admit it!

Well if I didnt make the mistake of buying it originally from HLH0501, I wouldnt be 4000 in the hole. But yes Im well over 10k in this ****.

I dont race it like these guys do in ATL, but I do get on it on the HWY, cause I drove from ATL to Bama about twice a month. Race all kinds of cars on there.

BTW, its not a TT, its a single turbo.

oh, isn't there someone here with a TT? I thought SSR had put out a TT kit for the 3.5....but now I notice you're a 3.0 so that's why.

If I had that kind of $$ to drop on thecar you can bet I'd do the same as you - but that will definitely never happen (wife has other priorities with our $$)

newayz, your car is still the ****....love the new rims as well.

The TT setup is SSR put togheter was for a G35 AUTO 2 door. There isn't really enough room for a turbo mounted on the rear manifold. This is why we have to use a single setup. The long Ypipe we have to use looses velocity vs short cast or tubular manifolds that mount the turbo right below them. RB motor will never fit a Maxima, its mounted longitutally not transverse.... plus RB26 motor is about as long as out whole engine compartment. U can put one into a 1st gen Maxima- RWD thou This is why I'm not doing a Ypipe turbo Maxima, but I have a guy who is going to make me 2 manifolds with a cross over pipe for a setup similar to the old Z31 T3 turbo. Should be more efficient and sound way nicer than the Ypipe. I never tend to divulge my projects....they might take a while but I tend to show em once their runing and boostin.

Fast Cheap Reliable- pick any two

The RB26 comment was a silly joke - note the wink at the end

If you want to replace your internals with forged ones, use your old engine block. Most tuners recomend to use higher milage block because its alredy tempered and therefore more resistant for breaking.

Most tunners who recomend that work with cast iron motors. It really makes no diff on aluminum motors if they are brand new or 200K mile blocks. I would repleace the pistons with VQ30DET ones vs forged units, forged sound really bad on cold days on daily drivers. The $$$ spend on forged units vs OE DET cast ones can be used on something else- like DET rods I seriously doubt U can find the limit of these OE units with the stock tranny. I know from experience SR20DET 54C pistons and rods are capable of 550WHP.... more than enought to slaughter the tranny right up. Spending 600 bux on a set of JE pistons for a SR is a waste of $$$, unless U crave more than 550WHP and have a PAR gear set in ur tranny then get some forged slugs
