Anyone Know?

Just got a 2k2 Maxima SE with 45k miles. Noticed one time when starting it a large cloud of blue smoke came out the exhaust. It has only happened once and immediately went away when the engine was running a few seconds. Why would this occur?

There was another thread about this earlier in the week.....can't remember specifically what caused it but I recall the general consensus was that it's nothing to worry about. So don't worry....

Blue smoke is usually associated with oil burning. It could come from a couple of sources. I would keep a watch on the oil level and not worry too much about it unless it starts doing it on a regular basis. It could be oil that was setteld in the intake mainfold from the PCV valve being drawn into the engine on startup.

Congrats on the new Maxima and welcome on the .org. I also have an 02 with 46k miles. A few questions for you. Did you buy your car from a dealership or from a private party. If it came from a private party, did they give you any maintenance records? That may be something to look over if thats the case.
