I am looking to add a different, but reasonably quiet, exhaust system to the 2001 AE Maxima, anyone got a good system at reasonable price. Stillen seems steep price wise, but cannot find anything from Tannabe or Greddy.....I don't really want a coffee can size rear pipe either....maybe more of a soup can !!!

stillen doesnt have a complete cat back it is only the rear section muffler.... i recently just bought the brand new HKS rear section and cant wait to see what it does.... it was $399 through stillen and if u wanted a complete cat back u could go to an exhaust shop and get a custom b pipe made for it ...... i got a quote on one for $89 installed so i am proably going to do it........ stillen said that they woud have one but the noise factor is too loud for them so i guess i will see what happens!

Why do you want one if you dont want sound. The stock system flows darn well already.

Guess I am getting old as I would rather sneak up on somebody versus alerting via sound. I wish the muffler and pipes were in polished stainless steel as you can still see them under the ground effects from 2001 AE and they look nasty. Why place chrome petals, gear shift, and kick panels only to give up on the rear ????

max2kgle526...actually, the stock pipe isn't as great as everyone seems to think it is...think about it...the 32 hp difference between 5th gens and 4th gens can't be a bigger intake and better flowing exhaust because lets say you put the same place racing cold air intake on both and the same piping and muffler on both, the 2k would still be pushing out around 30 or so more hp...they would not be the same...the exhaust system is not all that great considering the hks MUFFLER only has been dyno'd to add 5-8 hp to the wheels...adding a pipe will most likely add a couple more since our stock piping sucks...we need some mandrel bending

Can someone please show me how the hack can you gain 5hp to the wheel by just replacing the muffler?
I am really curious and perplexed!!!

im not quite sure but i know that the more the back pressure in the system the more low end troque you get........ so by lowering the back pressure you dont get as much torque but you get more horse power at higher RPM's so in the long run it will give you more HP at higher speeds not off of the line........ if im wrong than someone please correct me this is the way that i understand it.........

Yeah, that is a general rule, but By just replacing a muffer will not do anything, if that's the case, why can't you just buy an universal muffler and get the same gain(If there is any)?????

Plus, i thought the most restrictive part of exhaust system on 2k max is the Stock Y-pipe not the b-pipe or the muffer!!!

I am not saying that HKS is bad, just want to know how the hack they got the 5/8hp to the wheel by just replacing the muffler--------???????????????The best muffler in the world is NO Muffler at all!!!!!

I didn't know the new HKS muffler was out. Do you have a link or a picture of it?

TIA
