Tire width
1. bridgestone potenza s02 pole position
2. bridgestone potenza re730
3. toyo proxes t1-s
the list goes on...lots of people debate on the top 3, but after tons of research, those are the best i could find for all around performance...the s02 pole positions are defenitely the best tire but they are $210 each from tirerack in our size (235/45zr17)...if you don't have that much money, the re730's are only $140 or so per tire and i'm not sure how much the toyo's are...bf goodrich gforce t/a dw (i think thats what they are called...the one w/ only 2 letters, i tried the kdws or something like that and it sucked...you have to get the one w/ 2 letters and it has amazing dry traction but not the best wet traction)...i've heard good and bad things about pirellis and nittos...kumho's are supposed to be very good for the money ($100 per tire) but they don't compete w/ the 3 tires listed above...check on tirerack and do a search by size...when the tires come up, click on the picture of the tire and they give you customer feedback on the tire and dry/wet/hydro/traction/longetivity etc. reviews...just check there...usually tires w/ V tread patterns are good tires to check first

just wondering isn't the upgrade in tire size 235/40 or is it 235/45.
well anyway, recommendation is in a 235/40 is the pilot sport

stock is 225/50R17...the only way you would go to 40 as the sidewall height is getting a new rim and going as wide as 255+ lets say...or going w/ 18" rims...235/45 17 is what you are supposed to use on the stock rims and if you are going w/ 18s, it should be 235/40 18 (assuming that is the width..if it is wider you may need to go w/ a 35 series tire)...but defenitely 235/45...the rim cannot handle anything wider than 235 btw

You realize that your outside of Bridgestone's recommended rim width with the 730's on stock 17" SE rims?
SE rim are 7" width, specified rim width for the 730 is 7.5" to 9". Not to rain on your parade, "fit just fine" is one thing, popping off the rim or sidewall breakdown under hard cornering due to too narrow a rim is another....
There are few tire choices for the stock SE rim. The RE92's suck. Michelin makes the Pilot HGT Z4 in 225/50-17 at $181 per tire from the TireRack. Believe it or not, the Pirelli P7000 SuperSport in 245/45 - 17 is spec'd to fit 7.0" - 9.0" rim widths and is closer to the stock overall diameter of the 225/50-17 than is the 235/45-17.
The manufacturer's spec the rim width range for a reason....
Toolin....
maxtoolin, many people on the boards have tried the 235/45 combo for over 6 months and nobody has had any problems...also, if you have ever actually measured the rim width, it is quite a bit more than 7 inches...find an se rim w/o the tire and measure

If you look back at some earlier posts regarding tires that I've been involved in, lots of owners won't risk the "out of spec" installations.
Good Luck,
