Maxima for 2002-2003??
Having a big dilemma here. My current lease for my car will be up and I'm deciding whether to buy a 2001 MaxSE 5spd or 20th AE. Thing is dealers I've visited are saying a revision for a new Max is in the works. I say BS but around the net rumors are flying...possibly because of the release of the Acura TL Type S, in which I think Infiniti should release something more powerful. The same goes for the next gen ES300. Has anyone heard something about this or should I hold off until the "new" MAx comes out?
I've read about the 2002 Max getting bigger & badder.... Personally, I'd go for the TL type-S or a 2002 Sentra
SE-R. You should wait until you can test drive any or all of these. Don't make a hasty decisions and regret later! They screwed me over with the AE. Nissan decided to advertise it 1 month after I bought my car. Now all this BS about 2002 cars. If ony I had waited!

Great link! No mention of SE-R or 6 speed though so I'm still wondering what the fate of my max will be!

the following was posted by MAX79 in another forum... I haven't heard if any of this info is solid info, but just though I'd drop what I've seen. RWD? Does anyone know if this is true? I'd be curious to know....

----The maxima is completely changing in 2004. It's going back to rear wheel drive. It comes with 18" wheels, a body kit, a six speed tranny, and it's supposed to get the new 320hp v8. It will be on a full-size platform then. The altima also gets bigger. It gets the new Z suspension and I think the 222hp or 240hp V6 and will be the size of the current maxima. The sentra se-r and spec-v models will have 170hp and 180hp and a six speed tranny. Some of this may be wrong but I saw it on a previous post that was started by Mike S.

Thanks for the info guys. To tell you the truth I don't think I can wait that long for the 2002 or 2003. One gripe I do have on the 5 spd Max is the gummy shifter. "Speed shifting" is something you really can't do without missing a shift gate. Anyone else notice this? Might have to get the short shift kit...
MotorTrend, Road and Track, Car and Driver all say in the "Z" article that its the same engine, probably slightly detuned I think, as the new 2002 Maxima. Also, the new SE-R Vspec shares the same 6-speed manual as the 2002 Maxima. So that only means one thing! 3.5L 250+HP V6 with a 6speed will be available. I think the automatic versions will be at least 240hp. I just hope they are right. If it is true, after college I might go search for a 2002 Maxima with a stick. But if it isn't, I'm going for a red 323ci or 328ci with clear corners and red/clear tails similar to this one http://www.autobase.com/photos/large/00270275.jpg To think I could have gotten this car if I would have waited a couple of months
