can you boys help a girl out?

I want to get my boyfriend something for his birthday and I don't know enough about what you guys do to get him something. I want to spend around $500 ( a little less wouldn't hurt) on him. He is constantly doing stuff to augment his car, and reading this site, so I figured that would be a good gift.

Here's what I know about his car.

Its a Nissan Maxima 2002 SE
It is grey
He has replaced every damn bulb in the thing (good thing the light on his license plate is 'real white') . . lol
He has a red bar under the hood
He just got new PROGRESS springs (so 'it will be 1.5 inches lower) (I dont get it, $200 so your car is 1.5in lower!!!)

Can you guys think of anything that he would really like? Any help would be very appreciated.

Warpspeed Y-pipe and Warpspeed B-pipe. You could do cheaper and get a Budget Y-pipe, B-pipe, and maybe a JWT popcharger.

you could get a intake. People here are liking the Berk Intake it would give his car a nice growl and some horsepower. I y-pipe would also give a deeper growl and a more horsepower. with $500 you could get both.

Buy him a pair of these

Seriously, maybe a cat-back exhaust or a tint job from a reputable place in your area.

I actually hope he does see it and replys too it. That way I can see what he really wants! LOLOL

He has the tint, and has a Kenwood DvD player. I forgot to say that and he does have clear lights, front, back, and side.

The Y pipe maybe good. I dont know. I think he would rather have "cool" then loud, if you know what I mean. His favorite thing when got the car was how quiet it was. I'm sorry if Im being to picky, I just dont know.

PS - Those dice are cute, do they come in pink??

Does he have a subwoofer?? An Infinity BassLink is a nice one if he doesn't.
Radar Detector?

Oh well, let's hope he replies... Good luck

My girlfriend bought me subs for my 2k2 2 birthdays ago... that was a great present! otherwise, he'd probably think the Maximum Tuning front lip is pretty cool.

A front strut tower brace is usually one of the first mods everyone does (courtesyparts.com). A passport escort radar detector is also great.

Go for the intake, maybe an injen or berk. They aren't terribly loud until you jump on the throttle. And they run for $200 and under.

He already has the FSTB.

I'd say y-pipe (www.warpspeedperformance.com) and an Intake and he should be more than thrilled, I know I would be .

www.mattblehm.com (matt93se on this site) sells brake upgrades aswell

and if he's more into handling, warp speed's subframes would probably make him happy along with the rear sway bar if he doesn't already have one.

I'd say buy him something not for the car.....a man's car is his baby, and if you somehow get him something that is not exactly what he wants (Frankencar Intake instead of a Berk Intake for example) he will HAVE to accept it to be polite but might not ever really be happy with it.....All this stuff is so brand-specific, image-specific, preference-specific.....it's risky to get him something for the car, because he may be forced to have something that is not really what he wanted...

My advice is get him something not car-related - maybe a flat-screen TV for the bedroom (you could do that for about $500) or big freakin speakers for his A/V system...

thank you all so much. A lot of people have mentioned the intake. I need so somehow make sure he doesnt have that already.

I just went out to the car to see what kind of radar detector it was and it is a passport 8500.

Is that ok???

I think the shocks might be good too becuase he did say somehting about needing them but he was ****ed off at some company he ordered the springs from so he didnt order them. . .or something. I dont know. THanks again everyone.

If he mentioned struts (shocks in other words) then I'd suggest Tokico Illumina adjustable struts. They're the most popular struts for the Maxima and offer 5-way adjustability so you can change how smooth they ride. You can get them cheap off of Ebay for $438 shipped. Search for "Illumina Maxima" on Ebay and be sure to select the right year. None are up for auction this minute but they're posted on a regular basis.

As an alternative, a rear sway bar is something nearly every Maxima owner goes for, and Stillen and Progress both offer great bars. www.stillen.com and cattman.com. It would make the car handle better. A very safe choice.

Stay away from Warpspeed pipes. I would get him a franken car intake at www.frankencar.com or some magnaflow single walled tips. Check ebay also and maybe get him some clear side marker lights.

If he's already got the FSTB & springs, then I would definitely suggest you get the progress RSB. It will make the largest difference in handling and it doesn't cost much. Then you could still get him an intake.

The best think you do ,is give him the $500 and tell him it's for you to buy what ever you need for your car.

ok, wow, thank you so so much.

He hasnt responded yet so, if I dont hear anything else, I think I will go with the SHOCKS that someone mentioned and I dont know what door sills are.

I think maybe I should the the rear bar too if it makes it safer. Does it really, or is that just an excuse for your wives and girlfriends (lol, jk). I swear some times he comes up with reasons to do things that are just silly.

Thanks again guys, you are all really sweet. No wonder he likes this site so much.

Intake: Check under the hood of his car. To the right hand side, see if you see a red colored round filter or something that says Injen.

RSB: Look underneath the rear end of his car and see if you see a metal rod that is a different color than the rest of the rear end of the car. An RSB would fit right underneat of his rear axle bar. The axle bar looks like it attaches to the tires.

For intake, I would buy a Berk with Apexi filter. For RSB, I would buy Progress.

Ah, my suggestion wins! Seriously though, I recommended the Illuminas because he already mentioned he'd like to get struts and the Illuminas are the most popular strut. Plus he will NEED these in a few months when his factory struts wear out. A very safe bet.

The other ideas listed such as intakes, y-pipes, mufflers all produce more noise, which it sounds like he wouldn't appreciate.

Does the rear sway bar actually make the car more safe? Well, yes and no. It makes the car handle better by reducing body roll, but it can make the car unpredictable when you really jerk the wheel in an emergency (the car can spin out if you push it too far). However, this is very rare. This is likely the most popular mod for the max. I'd recommend (as would the majority) the Progress bar from cattman.com because the stillen bar is far more expensive and not significantly better.

Oh, and I wish my girlfriend would go out of her way like this. Instead, she told me "I wanna get you Chiefs tickets, but I don't know how." Wow, talk about anti-climactic. C'mon woman, do some research!
