alignment question

I dropped the car two weeks ago, I have a set of 19's here waiting to be put on...the question is:

Do I get an alignment now, and then put the wheels on?

Or, do I wait until I put the wheels on to get the alignment?

Thanks for the responses.

<bump> Anyone else? I'd like to get this done today if possible so if anyone can confirm the answer already given or provide other information, I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks!

Get an alignment now. You don't want alignment people to scratch up your rims. You can mount your new rims after alignment. New rims won't change your alignment.

When are you putting on your wheels ? i might ber right or not but frome what i here is that the best time for alignment is when u get new tires and wheels. right now if you do the alignment the condition of you each tire might be different from the new tires then what you'r gona get( new and used)
if yo do the alignment now with used tires you might have to do it again with new tires.

Well, my initial plan was to put the wheels on this week, and then run and get the alignment immediately following. I'll be going from the stock 17's with 225/50/17's to 19's with 245/40/19's. From what's been posted here, I don't want the alignment people scratching the wheels, but I also don't want to have to be forced to get another alignment after I put the wheels on due to improper tire wear/drifting/etc.....

You might want to ask the guys at the shop you're taking it into for an alignment if there is any chance they might scratch the 19s. If they and you feel confident that they won't be scratched then take it to them with the new wheel/tires on. Just make sure they don't scratch them.

Ok....it will be the same shop where I took it to get the tires mounted on the wheels and balanced last weekend....dude took all types of care with them while putting the tires on, and one of the wheels had a barely noticable quarter-inch scratch on one of the spokes and he pointed it out to tell me that he wasn't responsible it was already there, which I knew - seems pretty good on the up and up so maybe I'll just take it there after I put the wheels on. Thanks for all of the responses, and look for pics with the new wheels this weekend!

wheel alignment and wheel balancing are two different things. They will tweak your suspension to OEM specs. No matter what wheels you install, your car will still be in specs.
