POS Chevy - data from website - no way?

Check out the lies on the Chevrolet website. Don't know who was driving, but this data looks bunk to me. I have to think an 04 Max would tromp an Impalla SS.

Could be more truth than lies. The data compiled is not straight line performance. It's lap times. The Impala SS and Maxima have similar horsepower and torque figures. Not to mention that Nissan tends to overrate horsepower figures and GM tends to be ahem 'conservative' about them. If the Maxima is heavier, not as agile or nimble around the track-- it's very possible that those figures are true. I've seen that happen with more powerful vehicles being humbled by a lighter, less powerful car on a track.

Besides, I didn't look for one, but I bet somewhere in that link it mentions that this was performance was conducted by an independent firm.

Last time I checked american V6s are no competition to Japanese V6s.
The Impala SS has the torque but there is no way in hell it is faster than the '03 Maxima in the Quarter mile.........My '03 ran 14.9 stock (auto) They must have had a 700 LBS guy driving the Maxima in the 1/4 mile.....
The Impala must have had a 180 LBS man driving..........

My maxima ran a 14.816 with just a catback (5hp gain) and that was my 4th run IN MY LIFE. Did you see the 1/4 number for the Altima 3.5SE? That is the most laughable thing I have ever seen in my life. Even the 2.5 altimas are faster than that stock. Also 02-03 maximas actually have about 265 torque. Its really about area under the curve... not peak torque. The V6 that the 04 impala has is the same one as the GTPs have. Its a supercharged 3.8L. GTPs/impalas can be made to run in the 13s rather cheaply becuase of the supercharger but with a 3583/3606 curb weight there is no way they are faster than a 02+ maxima/altima3.5SE stock for stock.

It's totally bunk. My best 1/4 times are 14.66 at 92.8 MPH in an all stock 2003 GLE (the heaviest model, no less). No damn way Chevy tested them "fairly"...

ummm those munbers are waaay off, it doesnt matter where these tests are done since you dont need "special" roads to do 1/4 mile. come on... i did a 15.2 with my stock 02 maxima with 3 people in my car and i burned out through my whole first gear which resulted in a 6.7 0-60 and a 15.2 1/4 mile....and my best 0-60 is 5.97....sooo, whoever did these test obviously should not be driving/testing these cars for official numbers.
just to add something, it says that an 04 maxima is faster then an 03 and a 3.5 altima is at 16+.... lol those numbers are way off.

just my .02$

(p.s. i did not do this at the track so dont bash me for getting times with people in my car. )

actually, if you look again at the data, the biggest advantage the Impala had was it's much better slalom times...

1/4 mile, braking and skid pad were all about even, but the Impala had a much higher slalom speed, and that is why it finished the road course about a second faster than the 2004 Maxima.

oh, and about these "bogus" 1/4 mile times, from what I've "magazine drag raced", the new Impala SS and any 5.5 or 6 gen Maxima are about even in straight line acceleration. both should run around 14.7 in the 1/4, and possibly better depending on the driver.

1. Maxima does have a weight advantage over SS. 3400 (Max) vs 3600 (SS)
2. Stock 03 6spd Max will be running 14.6-14.8 in the quarter, even 14.9 for an auto, NOT 15.5, unless its being shifted by a 1000-lb rookie on a wet track in January.
3. Anyone else notice the absence of BMW 5 series and Audi A6/S6? Wonder why...

After 50K miles the headgaskets will be shot, wheel bearings will have to be repleaced. Tie rods will be all worn out with about an inch worth of play in it. Power steering pump will be whinning louder than that supercharger.... don't ask me how I know this. I work for a dealer and I inspect alot of cars before we re-sell them as used units. And Grand Prix, Bonnerville, Impalas, and ANY northstar powered car are shiat boxes. I tell ya, I'm really against all american cars, but Ford makes a hell of a car nowa days. I get Expeditions with 100K miles on them and they don't need much other than maybe brake job or some minnor interior trim work. I would buy a Ford vs a Honda for sure. Ford trucks are the toughest trucks out there right now- I love the Titan too !

I wonder what the conditions were when the testing was conducted. I cannot stand the Impala SS' looks and styling. The only thing I like about that car is the engine. I love the refined feeling of the VQ35DE but I wouldn't knock the L67 3800 series II. That's a pretty stout motor with alot of potential. The GTP/Regal GS guys are getting into the high 13's with a smaller pulley(for the M90 SC),cai,cat-back and a half way decent driver. I thought about getting one of those before my Maxima. I like the styling of the Maxima better. I have been in love with the Maxima since 1995. I still have to challenge my friend with his 00 GTP at the track. I've run a best of 14.9@93 with a muffler and the stock airbox. I know the car has more but now that I drove my friends 00 GTP with his cat-back I don't know. It will be a driver's race for sure.

Guys remember the Impala SS is SUPERCHARGE, that's the only way the Impala can beat the Maxima. I raced a Bonneville Supercharged and it beat the hell out of me. Max 2001 stock........
