I have a 2000 SE (automatic), and I have been dreading the last two months of not being able to drive stick. Now, what I really want to do is just trade the car in for a manual. But, that would lead to a very large amount of wasted money, which is something I dont have a lot of. Now, I'm considering doing a transmission swap... if anyone has any experience on this, or you know how much this may cost me, please let me know. If I can save money on doing the swap over the trade-in, I will probably go with that, and vice-versa.

Thanks,
Dave

The tranny swap could cost the same or more that the trade-in in my opinion. You're probably looking @ at least $3000 with the tranny and I think I'm low balling it.

TRADE!

Keep your eyes peeled for a good trade!

I did it: Exact same model(AE), exact same color, exact same miles (7K) but with 5Spd, Bose and Meridian: I paid $600 after my trade in!

Let them (the dealer) know you want a swap auto for 5 speed. They’re gonna find it easier to sell an auto max anyway… Tell them the bottom line price you’re willing to pay and be ready to walk. They caught me on the way to my car with the final offer. I would have driven off, because I loved the car I already had. (They didn’t know HOW badly I wanted that 5 spd…)

The feeling I get when I hit a clearing on the freeway, drop it into third and fly to 90 MPH in no time is worth every freakin’ penny… trust me! Then there’s the trouble you’re saving yourself of having transmission problems/TSB’s,auto tranny service, etc., etc…

Go for it.

Good luck!
