Clearing the red from 2k & 01 tail lights.

Does anyone have a "how-to" that leaves the tail lights completely clear? Being able to do it on an 02 would even be better for me, but I'm willing to buy a pair of 2k or 01 tails and only have to clear the red.

thx

Cannot be done. Buy all clears or make 02 lights all red with translucent paint.

Can you buy all clear 5th gen tail lights? There is an org member that has them and I saw them on his cardomain.com site but I can't find it now.

I agree they are ugle as they are, but one of the org members black out or tinted the area around the lights similiar to the 2k and 01 and it looked nice. I'm also thinking about using same color as the car on those areas. If nothing else, I'll have something to play around with.

That should be enough for most...but usually youll hear I got those "clear" tails...and then a couple weeks later a lamo thread on how the "pigs" busted me for my clears.

I have clear corners and thats pushing enough for me. Plus, these clear rears have NO reflectors its a safety issue at that point also. I think Police will let you slide on the corners....doubt much slack for the rear. Remember the law is that it has to REFLECT RED (rear of car) for so many feet. Not PROJECT red.

So, Since it's not your car and not your money; your opinion is worth what?

thanks colonel...that's helpful information...I didn't know there was a requirement to REFLECT red...I'm going to check with the DMV here in MA to make sure.

Always appreciate helpful information.

Hey, if you could post what MA law says, that would be helpful too. Laws vary state to state...but the one thing I could find was that they all seemed to say one thing or another about reflection.

those clear lenses are ok, but the bulbs have to be replaced frequently because they burn through the red and turn pink..

I was wondering the same thing about the bulbs. Polarg makes some that burn red when on but are white or light yellow when they are off. Don't need pink bulbs.

Colonel, I will get the MA reg's and post them. I do notice several cars with clear the lens and colored bulbs. There's a hot M3 that has cleared lens and the blinker or hazard is a white bulb instead of amber. I want to check if that's legal.

I used to have blue bulbs in my cleared markers and got pulled over by state police. They said anything but blue. Then they made me put on my flashers and directionals to see if they flashed. TG I hadn't done the marker rewire yet. Now I just have the white PIAA xtremes.

2K1 ghost rider, I'm actually not a newbie. I bought one of the first Y2K SE's with the 5 spd. and every option. I've been on this board for longer than most, I just had a different login. Changed when my previous email provider got bought out and I couldn't get my password. Would love to be a paying member but....

Thanks for the help.

Peace

Some of the new Lexus RX330's have all clears in teh back...but in the bumper, they have like a 3"X5" reflector installed on each side of the rear face of the bumper....so...they can have clears as they have the correct "lawful" reflectors. Wonder if that Bimmer has something that is not for sure to the naked eye?

I would agree. If you're sitting on the side of the road at night with a dead battery and a car comes up behind you, you should have something there. But, now I'm wondering if 2k2 lights actually do reflect as they are not "reflectors" in the true sense.

There might be a way to incorporate something reflective in the back of the car...around the license plate, under the bumper...

a friend of mine is trying to convince me to put small LED's in the lip of the bumper that turns up under the trunk lid....that little space......hmmmmmm....sounds cheap if not a little pimpish....

Actually I'm not a noob, I had to get a new sn cuz somehow the org doesn't recognize my old sn..Either way that means your opinion means as much as mine..Clear corners, I've had those on my maxima for 4 years now, my blinkers are also hyperwhites, the cops here (in chicago) don't care.. Either way it's still a waste of money to get those fugly *** clear tails..And btw I could care less if you get em or not I only wanted to tell you it'll make your car look like a pos, even though it probably already is..Oh yeah you really pushed me around, haha you're so
