Possible Transmission/Engine Problem??
Possible Transmission/Engine Problem??
Hi all,
My girlfriend has a 2000 Infiniti I30 with aprox. 80k miles. The problem occurs when the car sits for an long period of time 8hrs/overnight (seems to be occurring more often now). When you start the car and put it into drive/reverse it will jerks like it is getting power then its not, back and forth if you let the brake out it is almost like you are in a stick in first gear with clutch out tapping the gas (but much less power so you are barley moving). Today it happened for about 5-10secs where it is usually only for 5 or less. I have only been in the car once or twice when it has happen and I put the car in neutral while it was happening and the rpms would jump up to the warm up temp and it wouldn't do it anymore. It could be coincidence that I was putting it in neutral the same time it was happening or part of the transmission :-( It was just brought into Infiniti service at the beginning of April and they couldn't reproduce the problem and the Tranny was flushed, drive belts replaced, engine light was removed (re-prog ecu). Once this initial "thing" happens the car drives fine for the remaining of the trip.
Thanks in advanced for any light you can shed on this...

Next time it happens, if you get the check engine light, take it to Autozone and get the code pulled for free. If it is code 1320, then replace all 6 coils.
I had a similar problem with my 2000 I30, and after replacing the coils it has been fine, running better than new.
Oh and do it yourself. Dealers will charge up to $1,000 to do the coils! You can get them online for $300 shipped. She'll love you for it and you'll get all sorts of browny points!
