Auto trans problems on 2k2+ Maxes
Auto trans problems on 2k2+ Maxes
Took car in originally for a harsh and delayed 1-2 engagement at 50% or more throttle opening, when engine/trans are cold.
Service advisor, whom I know, told me that his best tech looked at it and determined it's normal for this transmission to slip and shift harsh until the fluid warms up.
Trans was serviced with proper ATF less than 10,000 miles ago.
Today, I'm at a stoplight near my apartment. I press on the gas to accelerate, maybe 20-30% open, and the car lags like a b***h despite the revs looking pretty normal. Finally, about 3 or 4k rpm, it slams down into 1st gear (it was "stuck" in 2nd or something) and accelerates normally.
About 4 hours later, I'm merging onto the interstate, this time with my wife in the car with me. I look left, there's a semi going about 70 in the right lane, so I punch it wide open to accelerate and merge into traffic...
...nothing happens. It's like I hadn't even pressed the gas pedal at all.
About 4 seconds later, the trans downshifts violently into 2nd or 3rd, and the car takes off like a rocket, as usual.
My question is this:
Has anyone had success convincing Nissan that the TSB for slipping A/T applies to 2k2+ models and not just 2k/2k1? I have 47,000 miles on my ride and want to get the transmission fixed before it gets to 60k and i'm out of powertrain warranty. Also, is this TSB even covered under powertrain warranty?
TIA

I had the same exact problem w/my '02 a week and half ago. Finally, last Wed., the car would not go into reverse. Took it straight to the dealer..it's still sitting on their lift
No word on a cause/solution. Take it to the dealer..

No word on a cause/solution. Take it to the dealer..I had your EXACT sympton, no 1st gear, car starts out in 2nd or 3rd gear, NO reverse gear. Limped it into dealer, got it back a week and change later with a new trans courtesy of NNA - $3700 repair.
Solenoids crapped out, causing substantial internal trans damage, warranting a complete overhaul.
You guys shouldn't be bent over on these things. ***** and complain, request a loaner car, request you get a new trans, etc. Threaten these dealers if they don't provide satisfactory and quick answers.
Dropped off car on Saturday afternoon, Monday morning diagnosis came in that I needed new trans. Should be no diff with u guys.
Good luck fellas. Should have gotten the 6spd, still kick myself...
I have a lazy 2-3 and 3-4 shift that I tried to explain to Nissan. The SA stated that they could find nothing wrong with it. (Paraphrase: "no codes came up")
But, what can I expect from Nissan people that dont know what 'RB26DETT' is? (rhetorical)

Nice to know no codes means no problems.

Damn trans, damn lazy dealers.
F23A4, still amazed at the 60' time! When do you get the Cattman ypipe in?
My car has always had slight slippage during the 1-2 shift but only when it's cold. I know it's not good to drive it hard before the trans is up to opperating temperature which I heard takes approx. 20 mins of normal driving. My car now has 53k miles on it as of yesterday and I have noticed that the slipping has gotten a little worse. I will be taking it in to have them look at it before the 60k powertrain warr. is up.

I worked on a 90K mile 01 I30t and it seemed to slip into 2nd when cold too, I wrote it up for a tranny. After it warmed up the tranny shifted beautifull. I work at Acura and our trannies go out as often as the sun raises- and this is an understatement. Remember TL really does stand for Trans Launcher, the next time U consider a TL.
I'd def. have them look at it if you're that close to the ptrain warranty being over.
As an update, dealer just called me today (9 working days after) to say the tranny is dead. Ordered one..probably won't see my car back till the end of next week
Driving an '04 Taurus as a loaner..such a weak car

paralyse,
Check this thread about the same issues I was having with my tranny. My local Nissan dealer took care of the issue with no questions asked. Turned out to be faulty silenoid in the valve body. As others have mentioned, maybe try another dealer?
Hope everything works out for you.
