Rear Wind Noise Fix

I was attempting to fix the wind noise coming from the rear windows on my Maxima and ran into a problem. I found out how to fix it on Houscor's site, which is extremely helpful, but after putting in the foam tape, the stock weather stripping does not want to go back in place. I am using .5 x .725 foam tape. Is this tape too thick, or am I not putting in on correctly?

did the "How-To" tell you what thickness foam pad you are suppose to use?

Yes, the How-To said to use .5 x .725 foam. Here is a link to the how-to.
