Settings for Illumnias ????
Settings for Illumnias ????
I just got the Illuminas and Tein H-tech put on, the car handles much better, slightly rougher ride but not bouncy like stock. What settings do you guys run on these and what are the results? I currently have it set 2f/3r, but the rear still feels soft to me, anyone ever tried 2f/4r ? or would that be unbalenced?

Illuminas
I am currently thinking about gettting a set of illuminas for my self and I am affraid if the ride will be stiffer than it is with my current setting. I have H&R and Tokico "Blues" and I already noticed that my rear starts to bottom out lately after 19,000 miles worth of use, which prompted to either invest more money on a descent setup or go back to stock. furthermore I drive my family around in the weekend and there is no way I can continue with this setup. I really need a soft setup that will not jeoperdize the handling. Please help before I make another mistake!
Please let me know if the illuminas are worth buying. Any other brands?
Thanks

I'm set @ 3f/4r. I had it set to 2f/4r and it was worse than the harder setup
I would love to dial it all down to 2f/2r and see what happens. With my stocker rims and tires, the 3/4 is perfect. With my 18's on the 3/4 is a little rough (less sidewall or stiffer sidewall) BTW I have the H-Techs also.

I have the h-tech and illuminas as well and have 2 in front and 3 in rear and thinl it rides close to stock without the bounciness of stock. Ride got a little harsher when i got my 18' wheels and tires, but nothin too serious. I was riding 3 in front and 4 in rear for a while and thought it was a little to hard. So personally 2 front and 3 rear is just about right.
Cool, thanks for the info, I agree 2f/3r is great for highway, 3f/4r is great for twisties and around town driving. BTW, access to rear struts is a huge P-I-T-A. Anyone have any ideas on how to access easier? There is no room back there to reach in. Lv2dmax, the illumnias are worth it so far, but I think the rear bottoming out under heavy loads is fairly common for the maxima regardless of set up-not sure why though. I put the rears on 3 or 4 and it does much better, not bouncy just smooth.
I just went up to 3f/4r, the car handles great, a little choppy on rough sections of highway, but damn, it feels tighter and corners great I feel like I am driving a much more expensive sports sedan. I would recommend that setting for everyday driving, at least with H techs, a stiffer spring may be a different story. Has anyone come up with a way to adjuust the rears without pulling your hair out?

Still a PITA, but it's not so bad now that I've done it a few times.
Yeah that's what I did too, but I cut my hands up the other day trying to wedge them into the small opening, I think I will just leave them set as is. However I think I can make a tool that will allow easier access through the small opening.
When I first got mine I had em set to 1/2 thinking it would be more comfortable but it was horrible. I set it to 2 front/ 3 rear and its alot better. I think im going to try 3/4 soon.
Oh and where I live the roads are so screwed up. potholes and raised/sunken manhole covers everywhere!

Access
I took-out the carpet "staples" and peel back the liner whenever I want to adjust the rears.
It IS a pain, but from the rear
seems to be the easiest for me.
A long flat-head screwdriver works best (oh, this is getting UGLY!) to reach the dial on top of the strut.
I just did about 1000 hwy miles to Jackson, MS, and for the most part it rode like a cruiser on 1/2. Watch-out for poor expansion joints on bridge abuttments -- OUCH.
I think I'm going up to 2/3 for daily driving -- 1/2 is just a tad bit soft and unresponsive for my taste.

But with the stock 17's, I LOVED the ride on this setting, nice and firm, but not rough...
