They are bad in the 00-01. Replace all six. My pinging, which I had from day one and put up with for four years, went away once I replaced all 6 coils! Car runs better than when it was new now!!

Sorry to ask a stupid question, but what does this "pinging" sound like. Can someone describe it?

Sounds like knocking noise... I just got my car from the dealer - they said that the coils where just fine and that my (MAS) needed to be changed the MAS AIR FLOW -- I had them do that and when I drove the car of the lot , I didnt hear anymore pinging noise.... it took care of the problem.

Is there a way to visibly see if the coils need replaced? I changed my sparkplugs recently to copper NGK's, but I've still had problems with my car stalling when I come to a stop on occassion. Is changing ignition coils as simple as changing the spark plugs, or does it need a computer to program it? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

its easier than changing plugs. just unplug the connector, attach the new one then put a light coat of high temp dielectric grease on the inside of the boot and put it back in. do this for all 6 and you are good to go.

Coil replacement

Can someone please give me an idea of what the coils cost, and which ones to get. Thanks.

nissan deal sells the coils for $63 each. About the pinging noise , I just fixed it and it was the MAS ( Mass Air FLow ) that did the job, now it runs smooth.
