AC Blower cuts on and off by itself

My AC blower just stops blowing air when it wants to. Sometimes it kicks back on by itself, but I have found that if I kick the blower under the passenger side dash, it kicks back on again. It is truly getting frustrating since summer is comming. I called the dealership and they told me it might be the "Blower Resistor." What is that? How does it work? and Is it hard to self-install? Thanks for the help guys.

I had a similar problem on my 91 SE once. The resistor was directly behind the glove box. It had two screws holding it in with several wires coming off of it. If I recall the part was $15 or so.
