I Just ordered my Headers and....

hey guys i ordered a set of HS headers from SouthWest and it will be about 2-3 weeks before i get them. so my question is how many of you have installed you headers on your own and how hard is it. i dont think it is some thing i cant handle but it might take longer than i have i dont have alot of free time between work and school and have the money to get them installed if i have to so is it worth it to pay some one? thanks

yes, have a mechanic do it. Why kill your day, and potentially screw up your car? I figure the 300ish you spend,it worth it.

If you are lucky enough to have someone like Jeff from maximum tuning do it, the price alone isn't a consideration, because your guarunteed a perfect install.

header installs can be a real pain in the a$$. only DIY if you have plenty of free time on your hands and the proper tools.

I've heard people having to lift their engines up a little to put these on. I wouldn't recommend doing this at home.

maybe lifting the car but who lifted the engine just to install headers? That person definately doesn't need to be installing headers. You will need long extentions, swivel sockets and tough hands to tackle the job. The heat shields are a major PITA. I left to job to one of my buddies to do b/c Im to impatient.

The radiator can be left alone.

PM SR20DEN for the cheapest install price. Its about an hour or so drive to charlotte but its worth the savings from what a shop would charge for the install.

Yes I usually do those jobs on the weekend and it's a turn key operation. You drop off your car at the shop and I do everything that is required including welding the new O2 bungs and extending the secondary O2 sensors. The process from start to finish usually takes me about 6-8 hours.

You also have a PM.

Blu might be able to answer that better by showing you his dyno charts. My charts aren't realistic of just adding headers and if I show them here they might confuse the issue.

You could drive up to clemson and I could help you. I have never done the HS headers but have done several engine swaps and such. I will be getting the HS headers in like a month, so I will need some practice. hehe

It's the shop where I work, we do German cars such as Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, Volvo, Volkswagon and mostly BMW. I have full access to it after hours.

My dyno charts are posted in the dyno section.

When I saw Blu's dyno I was a little disappointed with the top end increase (6k+) but then I read the mod list. That is power increased over a y-pipe! 18.5whp and plenty of torque too based on the low end readings. I cannot wait to get these.
