Code P0420 Help

The SES is coming and going evey few days. I took it today to Auto Zone and the run the code. Can someone help me with this. The code read Catalytic System Efficency for bank 1 mis below threshold for the current engine operationg conditions. Is the Oxygen sensor damage or what?

Thanks

I have had this problem for about 1 year. I took it to the dealer at 60k, they just reflashed the ECU and it went away for about 12k mi. Since then it has come back, I have had it erased but usually it'll come back after 1k mi. or so. However I have noticed that I get 3-4 mpg more with the light on. This is a comparision of about 5 tank fulls with it off and 5 with the SES light on. So at this point I just passed 100k on my 2k1 and I just leave it and keep getting 28-29mpg 50/50 city hwy.

Go to the dealer, have it re-set. Usually, that code is just a glitch and re-setting the ECU will get rid of it.

yep. don't let people tell you the wrong info. There is a TSB for this problem. Go to the dealer and have them reflash your ECU with a new program. This should be covered under federal emissions warranty 80k miles.
