Poll: Sell the Max or replace the clutch..

the dealer is going to charge me $845 to replace my clutch. that is if the flywheel is ok. if not, more like a grand. the rest of the car is great.

should i:

A. get the clutch replaced?

B. trade it for a newer model?

That sounds like too much money. Try a reputable shop, not necessarily a dealership. You should be able to make your own decision. What is the mileage on your current car, how much you owe on it, how much disposable income you have per month (after all bills are paid). People rarely change cars just because of the worn out clutch.

that is Waaayyyyyy toooo much. Go get a tranny shop to do it, up here itd run around 5-600 id use the excuse to put in an aftermarket one personally.
But dont waste your money at the dealership for stuff that most shops can do.

Don't take your car do the dealership. They overcharge. Take your car to some local shop. Call around first.

Let me guess. They quote you some insane price for the clutch job and then "let" you know how little your car is worth. Then they kindly "offer" you to trade up by "giving" you a good deal on a new car.

Don't let these guys fool you. Trading in the car when it only needs $500-$600 of work is an insane financial decision.

Get a GOOD local shop to do it. MUCH cheaper in the short/long/middle runs.

yeah, i just called a tranny shop and they said they'd do it for $525, but will only put in OEM. i'd like to upgrade the clutch, but then i prolly wouldn't get a warranty.

Dealerships have much greater overhead than independent shops, hence the ability to get a better deal at an independent.

The quality of work from good independent shops is usually as good as, if not WAY better than, the local Nissan stealership.

Just out of curiosity, not really related, how many miles on current clutch and how do u rate urself as a driver (aggressive/moderate/passive)? Just trying to get an idea of life expectancy of clutch.

too bad you live in the middle of nowhere, hehe...a clutch change isn't a HUGE install...

but yea, find a legit local shop to do it. if they say they won't install aftermarket, it's only because they are making a killing selling you OEM. go elsewhere.
