18's and check tirerack.com. 19's and 20's equal small tire, which could equal bent wheels over bumps and through potholes.

I went to 19's because of the look on the car. 19's are cutting it close with the profile on the tire. I have Eibach springs and 235/35/19 Nitto Extreem 555 and the ride is fine. If you have alot of pot holes where you live, you might want to go with the 18's. My ride is fine, and not harsh at all. If you go to 20's, it'll look sick, but you'll have to go to a 30 series tire. 30 series is a low profile..... Good luck...

If u go with the 18 u need a 235/40/18 and for 19 245/35/19. I really do not recommend 20(it probably rub anyway).U could go with lower pro for 20, but speedometer will be off. I am considering myself Concept Neeper. Try www.salesco.com

Won't the 245/35/19's rub?

My4DSC has 245-35-19's on this 19 x 8 & he says they rub ...

aren't 235-35-19 a little small? tirerack says it's ok but the www.miata whatever page says 245 is better ....

I went with the 235/35/19's because My4DSC said that his 245's rub. I too thought that 235's were going to be too small of a side wall. I have 19X8's and with the 235's they don't rub at all and I still have a good ride. 235's are the way to go if your worring about rubbing. They're not that small of a side wall at all.

i have 19x8''s on my car with 265-30-19's i went with because i street race my car and i wanted take off traction and extreme handling. they rubbed once when i had my struts set on soft and i hit a dip in the road which made my rear end dip down and rub the tires.if you dont have a adjustable coilover set-up i would go with 245-45-19's

I would recommend the 18's from a reliability/practicality standpoint. If for some reason you ever need a replacement tire in a hurrry tire stores are more likely to have 18, 20 and 22 inch tires over odd sizes like 19 and 21. I have had my eye on the Niche Corsa wheels since they came out. Check them out at http://www.nichecorsa.com and http://www.nichealloys.com .

hey I was reading your adds about the 19's or 20's
Go big or dont go at all. I have 20' kmc trapms on a 235/35 zr20 nitto's. the wheel well is huge with the right tire and a little bit shaved off the back fender you could roll a 21.

seth_js...i've seen 2 maximas w/ the exact setup you have...the car looks raised and eibachs nor h&r's will cover that gap...i say for performance go with 19" rims w/ 245/35ZR19 or 235/35ZR19 tires...i talked to one of the people w/ 20s and 35 series tires and he said it handled about the same as stock...he basically just got the rims for looks...they are supposed to be for performance, too...but if you are entering into shows or something, get 20s w/ 30 series tires (or else you will have a huge wheelgap and your speedo will be offset by a ton)...if you want performance get wide 18s or 19s...no bigger than that if you want the best performance

Hell, be like Shaq and throw 22's on there! OK, maybe if we too had a fully customized Cadillac Escalade w/ Superman badging, hydraulics, etc. we could do that! Anyone see that Diary on MTV about Shaquille O'Neal...?? He's got crazy cars and ca$h to throw around. MUST BE NICE!!

Being from NY (pot hole city) i guess I can never imagine having huge rims like that. I personally wouldn't go past 18's, 19's would be pushing it, but if u have good roads by you go for it. Just remember bigger rim + less tire = bent/cracked rims. Just be sure the roads u drive daily are forgiving.

i love the way big wheels look. Its like making your maxima look like a stock bmw or something. i honastly think maximas should have come stock with a front strut tower brace and 18 inch wheels. Can you say maxima SE-R?

Big wheels look nice and all, but prepare to suffer in the acceleration department. Th weight of 20" wheels is substantial compared to say 17's or 18's, and with the extra weight being further away fom the center of the wheel, your rotational moment of inertia goes through the roof, hence it saps power trying to make those 20's turn. (Why do you think all race cars run smaller wheels and more tyre with stiffer sidewalls?- WEIGHT!)
So if yo wan't performance stick with 17's or maybe 18's (some losses there), if you wanna be KEWL slap on some 23" wheels with rubber bands around them and wait for them to crumple! For race, get some 16" Volk Racing wheels with Yoko race tires.

I agree. If you are looking for the unlimited performance setup go with 16 or 17 inch lightweight wheels (Volk TE37s or similar). The smaller rims are cheaper than the 19+ and the tires are easy to find a cheaper. Sport Compact Car did an article awhile ago were they dynoed a Civic before and after they put plus 2 wheels and tires on it. They did see a loss of power at the wheels.

If you want 'the look' go with 19's. I have heard that some 20+ inch wheels rub on the fender wells of the Maxima.

You are correct on the racing factor. But we're all not racing at the track every day. I have to say if you shave a second off of your time with 16's or 17's then good for you. Some people are in it for the looks and good performance. Others are in it for the racing. I think that 20" would look sweet, but would cost an arm and a leg and with a 30 series tire, way to small. I was contimplating on getting 18's or 19's, I went with the 19's because of the look. The Maxima is a pretty good size car. If you have a black Maxima, you could run any size rim you want and it would look sweet. Race or looks/Perfomace. No need to say one is better than the other, that's too easy.

Actually, Touring cars run 19-20" wheels, and they look phat and they can run! Just the one exception though!

True, true, but those wheels don't cost $500 each, like your run of the mill 20" wheels. More like $2000 each and they weigh almost nothing. Plus you're talking about a car that put 300hp to the ground and weighs less than a half rotted canoe!

i have 17s right now but i'd like to trade in my rims for 18s....17s are good looking and ride is also good. but i would mind having a set of 18s for a change...
personally, i wouldn't go 19s or 20s simply because it'll comprise performance too much. if i had a supercharger, maybe i'll opt for the 19s..but anything larger than that would be strickly for show...

I completely agree. Not all of us like to rip our cars apart and spend hundreds of dollars to shave off a half second at the track (which you go to like 2 times a month anyway). I think my Max is one of the best looking that I've seen so far (pics will be coming soon).

I really like the way the 17's that come on the SE look. I am going to keep mine and switch the tires to 235/45-17. Switching them to a lighter rim would be nice, but i think it's cheeper to just buy nice tires for the stock wheels.

HATE EM! I see Corolla's with them. If they weren't so damned popular I might like them, but when you see them everywhere they lose their appeal.

I agree, I do like larger rims, but not too big. There should be a visual balance. I also agree w/ OzziSVT on the performance issue, there's too much weight in the bigger rims, which I would hate. Here's another thing, what about ride quality, lest tire = less cusioning = harsher ride.

Make ur choice wisely and get what makes the most sense not what everyone else is gonna think looks 'phat'. Don't regret ur choice.

sorry for the lecture

HaulinMax,
That's not even a lecture. You're right on the "Don't regret your choice" part. Get what you want... If you think that your not going to like the 17's then you won't and you'll regret it. Get what you want, not what others think you should get... All these things can be replaced and sold to the next guy, it's not permanent.
