ok, i know many of the 5th gens have had problems with the 3rd gear grind. my 3rd is grinding every time i shift above 3000 rpm. dropping a gear to pass a car is out of the question with 3rd and i cant even downshift when im slowing down. my question is will the redline mt-90 tranny fluid going to help this at all? or am i looking at getting a new tranny from nissan. . .anyway, someone please just give me their .02 thanks.

 

Redline MT-90 solved my slight grinding I had with my other car.

 

I would try and get think Nissan to replace the MT. Changing the transmission fluid might ease the problem but its likely to fail sooner or later. Just my $.02.

 

I heard the 350z guys has this problem( 3rd gear grind) all time and nissan aways replace they mt. it takes about 4-5 hours for the swap.

 

we had a 6spd socal member that had his tranny replaced eventually due to the third gear grind.

take it to a more reputable dealer near you and see what they say

 

sorry to bring up an old thread but ....

Is the 3rd gear grind problem only present in 2k2-2k3 6spd MT or iis it present in all 5th gen manual transmissions?
