01 front bumper cover advice
01 front bumper cover advice
Hi everyone,
My wife just rolled into a truck on the way to work. No biggie, everyone's fine, but the truck had a trailer hitch so it went through the bumper cover. The guy was nice and let it slide since there was no damage on his big truck. I haven't seen the damage yet so I'm just going by her description and it sounds like only a new bumper cover is needed with some new foam padding (hopefully). Here are my questions:
Where's the best place to buy a new front cover? Not sure if Dave B carries this or not.
I'd rather not involve the insurance company b/c of my deductible vs. total cost. If I leave the insurance company out of it and pay a shop to paint/mount the new cover, what should I look out for? Do shops charge more or less if they're just dealing with the customer? Any difference in the work? Never dealt with a shop one-on-one. Thanks.

Have a look at ebay, if you get lucky, you may run into someone selling one the same color as what you need, so you may avoid having to paint it. Otherwise you can buy a primered one, take it to a body shop and have them paint it. Depending on your deductible, it may be cheaper for you in the long run to do this yourself then involve your insurance company. On something like this, I'd take it directly to Nissan dealership body shop, as they would usually do a better job on matching the paint to your car.
