find a 2k max GLE on newspaper. full loaded, 10k miles, ask $18900. Sounds a good deal to me. But I am wondering it is too good to be, last time I found a 99 Max Se, 22k, auto ask $15400. Also a good deal. But when I test drive it, it had a big problem with the engine. and the owner bought the car for only two months. This time I called the owner, he is the second owner too. he said he bought the car only for sell to make money. he doesn't have any service record for the car. is it safe to buy a car like that if test drive with no problem? does the factory warranty will works no matter what happened with the car before I buy it. I will go to see the car tomorrow, any suggestion what I should pay attention to when test drive the car? any other advise about buying a car like this one?

Thanks!

Get the vin number, and do a lookup on the web... (don't remember the website, but i did once see a pay-per-use service which generates a report for any vin number)... such a report **should** tell you if the car has been in any accidents, how many owners it had, whether it's reported stolen, etc...

-or- i think you might be able to do such a search down at your local DMV.... However, I am not certain..

As tomz17 said, get the vin and run a carfax check. Here is the link for a free report: http://www.carfax.com/cfm/PromoPage1_New02.cfm. Then call Nissan at 1-800-NISSAN1 and ask them to tell you all the warranty work that has been reported for that VIN. If yo can find out where it has been serviced locally, the dealer may have service records. If Nissan doesn't have any service records, ask them at what dealership the car was originally sold at. Most likely, that's where the car has been taken for service and call them directly. Then have the car inspected at a dealer or an independent shop. Also, you can have it appraised at Carmax, they'll be able to tell if any paintwork has been done on the car. The warranty is transferrable in most cases. If all checks out, that's a good deal. Good luck!

Thanks.

I used carfax.com before. but I think the information it gave are too little. I bought my 93 Mazda from a small dealer three years ago. I did not find any useful information on carfax. even no how many owner before me ( and does not show me for owner too).

any other method I can use to check the car. I will try the VIN at dealership. anything else? Thanks!

What is the VIN, what are all of the options on the car, and what state/province/country do you live in?

10K miles?..

It still has warranty...... Do the carfax and if their aren't any serious problems, get it.... If you have problems later, go get it warrantied.

Yes, it is still under warranty. But if the car involved in some accident. does the warranty will cover the future problems?

finally saw the car

just come back from test drive. the owner is an owner of body shop. he bought this car from a insurance company in Texa. He seems very honestly. he told me the car was flip up in an accident, but no damage inside. he repainted it with black color over the orginal silver one. And he change 3 doors.

when I asked him is the car still under warranty. he said no. when buy from insurance company it will not be covered by warranty anymore, is that correct?

We drive to Carmax to have the car appraised. the conclusion is "
evidence of paintwork, possible frame damage.

Then I checked Carfax.com, it showed "JUNK TITLE ISSUED".

The carmax appraised value is $17500, the owner can low the price down to $18500. it feel good when drive it. and the owner seems honest guy.

in this case should I take the car? he said the car did not demage any inside when he bought it. Can I trust him? or is it worth to buy a such car at such a price?

Here is the VIN: JN1CA31A0YT206046

any suggestion? should I take it?

NOPE! It's got a salvaged title and isn't under warranty. Not worth it. Try going to a local dealer and looking at used 2ks. They should be willing to drop the price pretty low. They were going to pay me 18k for my 2k se with 16k miles to sell for 20k would be a 2k profit. Just make sure you don't end up in a car that used to be a rental.

Forgot to add, it will be harder for you to finance or resell the care if it has a slavaged title.

Avoid salvage title cars, especially almost new ones like this one. They are worth about 50% of an average GLE. Keep shopping around, I got my Max (perfect condition, 7 months old/9kmi) for only $17,500 at a small Ford dealership.
