WHat brake rotors should I get?

Ok sorry for the newbie question here but I am not up on Maximas. If you want to know about VWs let me know. Got my wife an 2000 Maxima GLE and it is a fantastic car. I know about the TSB on the brake rotors but I am not covered due to mileage and age of the car so this one is on me, unless someone is going to tell me they extended it past 3 years 36k miles both or which we are over.

Not looking for cross drilled but sloted would be ok. Also a pad recomendation for just daily driving would be great too. I am using Mintex red boxes on my Golf and they are fine but not sure if there is something more appropriate for the Max.

Thanks and please be gentle.

I bought some rotors from "maxed up" here on the .org. Great price, and great seller. Haven't installed them yet, so can't say too much about quality, but everyone else has said good things.

I have seen these mentioned in 2 different threads now and I am interested but something confuses me a little. What pads do you use? If you upgrade the rotor to a larger diameter but use the stock pads you aren't using all of the area since you didn't increased the sweeped area. Or am I missing something here?

Also if I just replace the stock rotors (priced locally the rotors are $42 each and the pads are another $38 for the set) how long will they last under normal driving? Original set only lasted 33k.

Thanks

I'm trying to figure this out too and would appreciate any advice.

I need new rotors up front and pads for all 4.

I don't care if the rotors are bigger or the same size. I just want rotors that won't warp as easily as the Maxima ones do! Are the Brembo ones still a good choice?

Correct, you are not using all the area of the rotor. Plus, you're not using 100% of the pad area either, although you are using most of it (there's like 1-2% of the area that hangs over the edge of the rotor due to the fact that you're using a larger rotor with pads that are designed for smaller rotors).
But that shouldn't be a problem... while a bigger pad area would be nice, the main goal is to have a larger rotor that can absorb the excess heat, which the 2k4 rotors provide. In addition, moving the pads out to a slightly further outer radius creates more braking torque, increasing the effectiveness of the front brakes by a percentage.

I am using the BlehmCo BBK with Nissan OEM 2k4 rotors and Axxis/PBR Metal Master pads. Braking effectiveness is amazing. No warpage (yet... hopefully this does solve the warpage problems and they're gone FOREVER, but time will tell)

not trying to be a d1ck, but doesn't anyone ever browse around the org for a while before posting a question? There must be at least 100 threads on this subject within the last 6 months.....

I got the Brembo blanks slotted and nickle plated. I am using EBC Greens on the front and stocks on the rear. No warping. Very pleased with thi sset up so far. I have about 15k miles and it's still going strong. Also, it took about 1hr for the fronts and about 30min for the rears. It was my first time.

If everyone had access to the search function like you do, then perhaps there wouldn't be so many reposts.

If you're going to post something, why don't you post something more productive instead of all this name calling and whining.
Sheesh.

I agree. The search function on this site needs to be open. I actually want to donate and get access to search but they are not accepting any donations for the past year.

I can't control who can and can't search, but....

Before I had access to search, I simply browsed pages.....all you have to do is browse back a few pages and look for threads called "what rotors are good" or "what pads should I get" or "need to replace my OEM rotors"......and there you will find your answer.

the positive side effect to this is that you will come upon other threads that might be of interest to you as well.

it's really not that hard, just that seems nobody wants to take the time and do the research themselves...they just want to ask a question and get a fast answer - let someone else do the work for them. Of course we all post questions, but a little bit of effort would certainly reveal that the brake rotor subject has been ENDLESSLY addressed on the org. I can honestly say I've given my "answer" to this question at least 20 times in other threads.....

I think the search should be opened to...but until that happens, spend a little time browsing the org and you'll usually find the answer before posting an often-repeated question...

oh, and turbomolar - I have certainly started my share of "productive" and/or "informative" threads here on the org. I have how-to's posted on my website.....I've seen the list of threads you have started....seems like they're all questions.

I had front Brembo blanks and Sumitomo pads installed 6/14/04. No warping so far. The pads feel pretty good. Soft bite but good stopping power. They feel smoother than the stock brakes.
I'm happy I had the rotors replaced!

As far as pads I preffer Nissan to cut down on the chance of annoying hiss or squeal. Check out Jerry Rome Nissan (JR Nissan) and use the "maxima" code when ordering for a discount.

Save the money for the GTI

Ok that rocks and I just had to use it. Been a long time since I have been here and I haven't even fixed this issue...yet...but I did just buy a set of Brembo blanks and new pads so this job will be done tomorrow.
