Vent line on CAI kits
Vent line on CAI kits
Has anyone tried removing the vent line that's attached to most CAI elbows and tubes behind the MAF?
I understand this would vent crank case vapors to the atmosphere, which is technically not up to CAFE standards, but will you get an SES light or anything weird by doing so? I wouldn't think this would be a problem. Possibly even clamp a small K&N filter to the end of a shorter piece of line or something.
The reason I'm asking is I'm persuing the idea of making my own CAI and attempting to copy the Injen design. The only difference is the vent line at the top, which was a recent topic of discussion here ( welds on the frankencar vs Berk ) which I would rather not even deal with.
Any opinions or experiences to share - please post.
Thanks
Steve

Vent line
I also just realized if you were to disconnect the vent line, you would want to plug the connection on the intake tube behind the MAF meter. Otherwise unmetered air would get into the engine and it would run like crap.
I think I've answered my own question regarding this idea so you guys who may think of posting a reply can ignore this thread if you want.
The TB on the 2002 max is not a full 3" dia like most of the tubing used on the CAI kits. That's the reason you see most of the elbows and pipes in the kits step up in dia about an inch away from the TB. For this reason, trying to use a generic aftermarket 3" pipe for example to your TB would require silicone bands or rubber spacer rings on the outside of your TB connection to step it up in size.
Can anybody tell me exactly what the stock TB size is, and what the outside dim of the TB is?
