Hi,
I wondering if anybody has any opinions on aftermarket brakes and rotors for a 2002 Maxima SE (ie. what brands of rotors and/or pads have worked for you). My steering wheel is starting to shake when I hit the brakes and I can also see that my rear rotors are rusted. I'm at 38K miles with the original brakes. There's about 65% remaining on the pads (front and back) and my Nissan dealership says they can't machine the rotors because they'll be below minimum thickness. I don't need anything high performance, but something better than the OEM equipment would be preferred. Most of my miles are highway miles so I don't think that the rotors should be warping this early.
Any opinions would be appreciated and Thanks in advance!

I've got Hawk Pads and PowerSlot rotors, and they're a whole lot better than stock on stopping. (at least on my '00) One thing though is that the aftermarket stuff makes more noise than stock, which I've been told and been experiencing for myself. Just a thought.

Sorry, can't contribute much, but I was wondering why my steering wheel shakes when I slow down from about 75 mph and above?

 

your rotors are warped. you can probably machine them for a temporary solution.

my 2k2 had the rotors replaced at 10k miles and now at 27k the new ones are also warped. the 2k2 is my wife's car actually and she is not one to 'ride' the brakes or abuse the car (unlike me). I am going to ask the dealer to replace them again.
If the dealer does not, after the 95 max gets sold/traded-in for an 05 G35, the 2k2 may be trade bait for an suv or mini-van.

 

Powerslots are def the way to go on a 2k2. You may want to consider a high perf pad for the front, but you will not need them in the rear. Ive tried everything including BBKs, and I found that the best stopping came from the Hawk HP + and HPS in the rear, but they also made horrid noise. I measured my 60-0 stopping and it was around 92 feet with that setup and 235-50-17 pilot sport all seasons. I recently switched back to stock pads, and the noise is gone (but so is the stopping power). The same stop now takes 118ft.

 

Frozen rotors are another option to consider.
