go nissan!
I've been a 00 5-speed Maxima owner for about 5 days now and I must say I'm extremly pleased with the car's performance: Today I was able to chirp tires shifting into 3rd - and that's with the ac on and a passanger in the car in humid, hot weather with heavy steel wheels! I credit Nissan engineers for squeezing out this much performance from a relatively small motor in a relatively large car. I was close to buying a Lincoln ls, but got a better deal on the Max. I know now that I made the right choice. GO NISSAN!!!

welcome....here's my first advice: if the car currently has Potenza RE92 tires on it, get the tires changed asap.....they are dangerous in the rain, yet they are our OEM tires
the VQ series engine is one of the greatest mass-produced engine ever....no doubt...

ok that explains it. You have a GXE with steel wheel, read 15" with covers, and these things are not heavy at all, they are 15lb each vs. 27lb for stock 17 SE rims. The stock 15"s are equipped with a POS Dunlop tires what have bad traction. These tires change tend to chirp once you get into 3rd lol. I put on all season Kumhos and now don't think my car can really do that anymore.

Honestly, I can't always chirp 2nd power shifting, so 3rd aint going to happen in my car.
Those smaller/lighter wheels must by why then.

I power shift and can barely chirp second in a straight line.

I can....with great ease. AND I have Pilot A/S? You sure you aint granny shiftin?
I get a 3rd gear Chirp out of Azenis Sport 245-45-17s on Enkei RPO1s with my full bolt on 3.0L. 2nd gear is more like a big patch than anything. I too had 15" RE92s on steel wheels and 5 feet of wheel gap in the front. I remember with 200 miles on the car trying to see if the car has a speed limiter..... damn did it feel floaty at anything over 80MPH. I have 90K miles on my car and I'm on my 8 set of tires in the front. I have lots of diff oppinion on tires.... Azenis Sport are awesome tires if U don't mind the little extra noise and little wet traction they provide. Don't try these in the snow ! I drifted around corners crazy style with Azenis on the back this winter, anything over 5MPH on packed snow would result in a D1 S15 Silvia looking drift. Damn 130MPH speed limter really sucks when racing some non ricer..... it takes very little time... like last nite smoking a 04 Max haha
i'm pretty convinced it's all about the clutch. The 3.5 has massive amounts of torque and even so, i hardly chirp 3rd anymore. I think my clutch has worn down to the point that it just doesn't engage as hard anymore. On my brother's 350z though, believe it or not, i can chirp 1st, 2nd, 3rd, AND 4th. This is on a consisten basis believe it or not. When the clutch grabs in that car there's an audible 'thump' and the tires just hang on for dear life.
