click...click...click...click.....???

I've noticed that when I drive with my windows down, I can hear a click click click sound coming from either the front or rear left wheel. It seems to click faster with speed, and doesnt go away with braking. I have 17" Mille Miglia EV-S rims w/ 235/45/17 Sumitomo HTR+ tires, and a Progress RSB installed. Brakes and rotors are stock.

Can anyone think of what the heck might be causing this clickity click click sound on my car????

Has it happened to any of you yet?
Thanks for any input you might have!

Are the tires new? Just a thought, I have a grave driveway and with my michelen pilot a/s I get little rocks in the treds and I get a click...click...click noise when I drive down the street. I stopped one day and checked the tires and sure enough there was a pebble in the grove.

I dunno just a thought! Good luck

nail, screw, pebble, etc. is the likely culprit.

could very much be your CV Joint. mine had a leak in it and started clicking, increasing as i sped up. i thought i needed a new axle, but dealer checked it out and recommended only a boot. since my friend was the one that actually worked on the car, i fully trusted them. i got it back yesterday and it has not clicked since. it could very much be. easy way. jack up and look at your boots. see if any grease has escaped.

Get down on all fours and inspect your tires. Look for anything that could be sticking out of your tires. Don't pull it out if its a nail.

good luck

Check your tires. It's probably a small pebble. This always happens to me.

I didn't find anything lodged in my treads. What does my "boot" on my "cv joint" look like? Does someone have a picture to post with an arrow on it? Thanks for all of your help so far!...

The CV joint boot is a flexible ribbed black rubber. It sits right behind the hub from the wheel covering the CV joint connecting the drive axle.

I never heard of a rock stuck in a groove cause a clicking noise. I definitely would check the CV joint boot. It's not hard to check. All you have to do is turn yoru steering all the way to the right to check your right wheel, you see a black rubber boot, and if you see a torn boot with grease, then you need to get the boot replace but that clicking noise, it's not a good sign, more likely you need a new cv joint. Check the left wheel by turning the steering all the way to the left as well to check.

well, in some cases i would agree with you 100%, but i just had my car fixed for that exact reason. i had a ripped boot, or so i thought. friend of mine, as i mentioned, is a service tech over at a dealership, so i left it in his hands. he called me later and told me that it wasn't ripped, but it was leaking. the little amount that had leaked was causing it to click, but it still hadn't dried out. fromt he looks, all i needed was a new boot and more grease. he did just that and the car was fine. iv'e driven it 3 days now since the fix and my noise is completely gone. so, he may not even have a rip, but it could be leaking. best sign is to looking for splattered grease all around that area. and again, he MAY NOT need a new joint, but maybe just a new boot.

I checked all the accordian rubber/plastic things behind the left and right front wheels, but didn't see any kind of leak or oil/fluid there. Hmmmm...
Is low CV joint fluid really bad for your car? Is there a gauge to check the fluid levels of this? What exactly does a CV joint do?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge. I'm learning though!

sounds like your CV boot...chk to see if its ripped or to see if you have greese around your wheel area.
oh yea and if you do have a ripped boot....replace soon b4 the cv joint gets damaged and it cost $$$ .if i remember correct the cv boot costs like $20..
