Here are pics of Philips D2R HID

I am new to the forum and am thankful for a 5th Gen only forum! I installed Phoenix Microlite D2R gas discharge HID on my 2K Max GLE one year ago. The kit consisted of 2 ballasts with integrated ignitors, heavy duty harnesses, 2 D2R gas discharge capsules, and an integrated H4 shield/base. You can see pics @

I like the retrofit. The color temp is equivalent to an OEM Acura TL. The retro fit has a nice, e-code like cutoff.

Did you change your stock headlight fuse to 30A??
Thanks

Well, I don't miss my hi-beams in the city. However, I have a feeling that in more rural areas, I would miss them. I do have somewhat mixed feelings about the beam pattern dispersion on the ground although it is pretty good for a gas discharge capsule within a halogen optics housing. The problem is, HID within a headlamp designed for halogen, will never be quite OEM. All things considered, if I had to do it all over again, I would!

No, I maintained the stock 10-15 amp fuse w/o incident. Remember that HID draws only 35 watts versus stock halogen 55W low beam and 65 W hi-beams. Yes, the kit was plug and play. It took about 5 minutes to install. The hardest part was finding a place for the ballasts. I velcroed them securely. Thanks, Todd

Here's how I installed HID
Well, I used no tools as the kit was "plug and play". Here is the sequence I followed to install:
1. Unplug the harnesses on your stock headlamps.
2. Plug the stock harness into ballast via the relay provided with the kit.
3. Place the D2R gas capsules in the headlamp housing.
4. Plug in the relay from the ballast to the capsules.
5. Turn on your headlamps and enjoy!
If you order an HID kit (cost typically $600-$1200) make sure you get D2R bulbs. This variety of bulb/capsule is designed for parabolic reflector headlamps. Don't get D2S-these are for ellipsoid projectors. Unfortunately, no one makes projectors for the 5th gen Max that I am aware of currently.

Thanks for the replys. Knowing my luck, someone will make a dual lens kit for the maxima or a projector kit right after I buy the HID kit. hehe.
Oh so where the "normal" bulbs where plugged into the wire harness, there is a adapter that clips into that slot and from that it connects to the new wire system?
One more thing, how well does the bulb "fit" into the OEM lens? Does it require anything special or just twist in?

On another forum I frequent, one of the members made custom projectors for his Civic-he used OEM BMW projectors w/OEM BMW HID and a Dremmel tool to cut a space for them in his stock Civic reflectors! He had great results! He made his own since the aftermarket APC Civic projectors have LOUSY optics that are much worse than stock. I was thinking of trying this on my Max. Here is a link to his pics:

Good Luck!

Sorry I forgot to tell you...
The HID H4 adapted capsule is really easy to fit into the housing-it doesn't twist but rather "clips" into the housing just like the stock H4 halogen bulbs. The kit is really similar in that the base of the HID capsule has been adapted to be the same as the stock halogen base.
