First Accident!!! Grrrr...

My parents went away this weekend so I finally can park in the garage and one side of the garage you have about 2 feet less space bc my dad stores our snow blower in the back...my dad has the smaller side bc his bmw is much smaller than my moms volvo wagon but for some reason they switched sides last week and my dad left with his garage door opener so i just had the opener to the smaller side and you have to park pretty perfect with about a foot or so room on each side (back and front) so neways i drove my drunk friend home when he called me at 2 am being a nice friend that i am ...and i park in garage after i got home and closed the garage door and hear a loud noise and then ...FRIGGIN A...the metal hinge on garage door left 3 nice gashes across the back ..i nearly died...nehow i can't do nething bout it now but the only thing i'm happy about is that its plastic so it can't be that hard to fill/paint over...nebody know what a decent price to get this fixed would be???...it isn't that deep but the middle gash goes down about 1 foot to bottom of car (all plastic) thanks for any input you got... :-(

That's why I always go by the garage door and look if the door will clear the rear bumper.

Sounds like a gash like this will require a new bumper cover for a genuine fix. You can try touching it up but I doubt you'll be happy.

Also, I hang a red spool of thread from the rafters that touches my windshield when I've pulled far enough in to the garage. 49 cent accident avoidance.

not to sound like a D**K, but what's the reason you HAD to park in tha garage if you're never parked in there anyway unless your parents are not home. 2 days or a week will not make a diffrenece in protecting the car if the rest of the year it's parked in the elements.

just my 2 cents,

again, sorry to sound like a d**k

haha yah well i'd rather park in there bc it was raining every day and i like a dry car and then when it was real hot out the car was much cooler in the garage and i just would rather leave my car inside overnight also as i think would most other people...the garage does have sensors for those ppl who said tennis ball etc however that extra 2 in the hinge sticks out is not accounted for as i found out the hard way...i have been parking there many times before and never had a proble but this problem was resolved less than 24 hours after it happened by my neighbor who owns a nissan dealership and you could never tell it happened...looks like new :-)

My garage doors always self turn back if it detects something under it, even a small backpack. Time to upgrade then no worry about it.

This is pretty crazy because not only is my car scratched up because of something I did while the car was off and me not in it but it happened around my old garage. Also my dad has a BMW that he parks in the garage and my mom also has a Volvo wagon.

I guess it's just a coincidence, but...

Wow, kruppa, I though for some reason you had switched names and posted something, thats scary everything is so close.

When I pull into my garage, I just look at the light switch and measure from there. I know that when it is directly to the right of me to stop. We have a few tires and stuff in front of the car, but when I get out and look, I am always about 2" from them. I would make a mark or something on the wall if you do not want to hang something from the ceiling and judge that way.
