For those with Auto trannies...

I've been feeling that my car's slowed down a bit. I have a 2001 SE (AE) and i was wondering if some of you with automatic trannies can help me out. Can you tell me how long it takes for your 00 or 01s to go from 120Km/Hr to 140km/hr..thats roughly 74.5MPH to 87MPH...a rough number to the closest second would be appreciated..
Oh and yes...I usually depress the gas half way so that downshifts twice ( i think!)
Thanks

try changing tran fluid or cleaning the injectors... cheap things first. plus downshifting that way isnt good for your tranny

I dont do that everday...probably once in 3 -4 months when i need to pass someone on the highway.
I'll try though. I have 55,000KM ( roughly 32,000miles) and i doubt my tranny fluid has been changed.
Times anyone?

I had my tranny flushed at 30,000 miles and it made a noticable difference in my 03. The car actually seemed to run smoother and shifting was crisper.

Check out the TSB for the transmission. Mine had the problem of rough shifting from 1st to 2nd under hard acceleration. The dealer replaced the solenoids and reprogrammed the ECU under the power train warranty 5 years/60k miles/100k kms. I had to paid for the BG Transmission Flush .

It is running much better now.

Okay..now i know what transmission slipping is
Mine does take roughly 1 second to go from 1st to 2nd in WOT... it seemed as if the 1st gear just hung there for more than a second and then it went into second.
But could this be why the car feels slow or does this just affect the changing?

try sitting at the bottom of a hill. leave it drive and give it partial throttle gong up hill. when its supposed to shift, the revs will rise but the speed stays the same. there are varying degrees of slipping, it can real obvious if its been happening a while and the tranny is on its way out. i have the link at home for the tsb and ill post it when i get there unless someone has it on hand.

Stall Test

Anyone ever done this test? It's from the service manual.

Stall Test
NFAT0027

ATF operating temperature:
50 - 80°C (122 - 176°F)

3. Set parking brake and block wheels.
4. Install a tachometer where it can be seen by driver during test.
I It is good practice to mark the point of specified engine
rpm on indicator.
SAT514G
5. Start engine, apply foot brake, and place selector lever in D
position.
6. Accelerate to wide open throttle gradually while applying foot
brake.
7. Quickly note the engine stall revolution and immediately
release throttle.

lets say you're crusing and then floor it.. your rpms are not proportional to the speed..
you'll noticed it when you have it..
as long as you have warranty no worries..
if your tranny goes bad and you're under warranty .. dealerships are obligated to fix it under warranty.. if they give you shyt .. just call 800 NissanUsa and report them.. and get refered to a reputable dealer

I had fuel induction service done at Nissan dealer a while back. This also cleans the throttle body. Car seems to run great now (better). Pwoer loss might not be the transmission. Just a thought ...

Why is flushing the tranny bad for the car? What milage do you consider to be "high milage"?
