Cat Back...custom vs bolt on

I went to a muffler shop last week to discuss options for finishing my exhaust. I currently have an after market Y and wanted to complete the setup. I spoke to the guy at the shop and he said he could build me an exhaust from the Y back with a high flow Cat, 2.5 inch piping all the way back with a ractive muffler of my choice on the tips for $400. This to me is an awsome deal, but what would be the difference between him building piping or me buying, for example, the Evo2, or the warpspeed B with and aftermarket muffler and a random tech Cat?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Crush bends as opposed to mandrel bends, and fitment issues are the only things I can think of.

$400 ?? I spent $280 (that included shipping, parts, and labor at meineke) for my high flow cat, 2.5" piping, resonator, dynomax muffler, and single chrome tip.

My cat-back is custom. 2.5" from the cat to an OBX Muffler cost me $220. Just remember there's no resonator so it's VERY loud. I recently put in a Warpspeed Y-Pipe and High Flow which made it even louder. In fact, I got pulled over Tuesday for it.

I keep reading about exhaust and the terms mandrel bent and crushed bent keep being thrown around through out the conversation. Can you explain the diiference and the advantage/disadvantage of one over the other.

Thanks, Mike

I believe when you just normally bend the pipe, you loose some of the circumfrenvce of the pipe, there fore not being 2.5" where it is bent. But with Madrel bending it is the same 2.5" width all the way through. The price at $400 does include the highflow Cat, 2.5" mandrel bent tubing and a ractive muffler with my choice of tip. My concerns with going with a custom made were the back pressure issues. Are there any?

So it is loud, add a resonator to it. But did you feel any difference in the pull of the car off the line after the cat back was done. Or did you notice better gas milaege?

I've had no problems whatsoever. Just don't go any bigger than 2.5" unless going w/ forced induction.

Well... I did it the other way around. I did my cat-back then Y. You're doing it the other way around. You will definitely notice a difference after getting the cat-back. I don't want to add a resonator becasue I'm not sure how much it will restrict the flow.

trust me, after riding around without a resonator for a year and a half, i can explain to you it's not an option, it's a necessity.

When you do headers down the road, if you don't get a resonator, you will be sorry, and or chopping the pipe and adding one.

For the minimal to no difference not having a resonator makes, having one is worth it, unlesse you want the car to be loud as *****.

With the headers, trust me it will be loud enough as it is (when/if you do them)

I recommend listening to the soundclips, there's plenty of them with different setups to see if it's what you want.

Hmm... Where would I be able to get just a resonator?

I can sell you a Magnaflow full stainless 31" resonator for $69 shipped.

We now carry the full Magnaflow, Borla, Bassani, and Flowmaster lines.

Bryan
