Tints..

I bought the car with some cheap tints already on it. And now, they have turned purple and are cracking. Got a quote from one of the local shops for 150 Canadian $$$ for just removing it. Isnt that expensive? The dude there said it takes longer to remove than it is to put them one. He's asking for 180 to put them on. WHat do you guys think?

If you want to save some money do it yourself....I have friends who have taken theirs off. They used soap and water, "Gue Gone", and a razor.

if you do it yourself be very careful with the rear window. it's very easy to strip the rear defroster. all other windows should be a straight forward job.

as to the price to install new tint, that's pretty much what it costs. i got mine installed for $170

the best way to take off tint is to get a trash bag and cut it open to be a single layer... get a spray botlte with water. make sure it is hot outside, now being summer is perfect. spray the water on the window and then lay, press the trash bag over the whole window. this will help trap heat between the window and tint to make it easier to take off. make sure to let the bag sit 10-15 minutes before takeing off.

Or should you decide to play it safe, $30-35 is a good price for getting the old tint taken off.

I would leave the rear tint for the tint shop to remove it. You don't want to mess up your defroster. You can use hot steam to remove the front and rear windows too
