Underhood temp update...summer sizzle
Underhood temp update...summer sizzle
As some may remember, I installed an underhood temp. sensor in the spring to see how hot it gets around my Berk intake.
Well, just returned from a trip to Washington, D.C. On the way down going 70 MPH it was 88 outside and with the AC running the underhood temp was 96. Not Bad.
However, when we got stuck in traffic in DC the underhood temp quickly shot up to 150 degrees and then the temp exceded the thermometers range and read HHH.
At this point the acceleration from a stop felt sluggish, I guess it was the hot air causing the engine to "bogg down" that others with a WAI have talked about.
Once we started moving the temp came down with no bogging.
Of note, with the recent changes (intake, coils,MAF) MPG for me have increased. Got 29 MPG on this trip(which included driving around D.C.), up from my usual 26-27 on the highway!

I have read here in the forums that you can further lower engine temps by removing the plastic Nissan engine/valve cover. Might try that since we are having a really hot summer here in Florida. Lots of really big bang boom power knocking summer thunderstorms and we are not even in peap hurricane season yet. Cross my fingers.

I've removed my engine cover as well as the rubber type strip where the back of the hood meets the windshield. I am figuring this open slit will help airflow through the engine bay and keep the temp down a bit.
