Is traction control for 2002-2003 the same as HLSD?

6spds didn't come with traction control, nor did the 5spds. Acura CL- Type S 6spd didn't come with traction controll eighter- I acutally like that car. Yet I wear a Nissan tattoo - no questioning me bout Nissan diehardness

just because you have drilled metal pedals does not mean that you have HSLD.
Also, Traction control is much diffrent then HLSD.
the only true way to find out if you have HLSD is to have the dealer do a vin search for you too see if your car came with it. also, if your car was one of the first bunch off of the production line when they first relased the maxima, you do not have hlsd.![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Also, another quick and definite way to to find out if you have it, is to look at the small plate in the egine compartment on the firewall on the driver's side. If the transaxle code has an 'H' in it, you have HLSD, if it doesn't have the 'H', you don't.

traction control is electronic and works by cutting power so that you reduce spin when you lose traction.
lsd is mechanical and reduces spin by locking up the differential when one tire loses traction.

Doesnt LSD also transfer the lost power from one wheel to the other wheel with traction?
Was hlsd an option? Does the dealer ask you if you want it or does it just come in some cars and not in others?
Thanks,
Mike

LSD is in your tranny. Like larrio said, it is a mecahnical way of distributing power to both wheels instead of just one like an open diff would.
Traction control is controlled via the ECU through speed sensors similar to ABS sesors. When it detects that one of the wheels is losing traction then it closes the TB for a split second.
It's nothing more than a computer controlled back peddal. When you are losing traction you just lift of the gas for a split second and mash it again. Watch NHRA drag racing and you'll see what it is.

traction control CUTS power when it detects a loss of traction.

For the gazillionth time...
On the firewall under the hood of your car there is a little aluminum plate that has the VIN and some other codes. It says VQ35(DE) for the engine and for the transmission it will list one of the following,
RS6F51A (for NO HLSD)
RS6F51H (for HLSD)
