Whats the deal with this?? *pic*

ok so i was taking apart my gauges yesterday to see what kind of bulbs i'd be needing to replace them with and i found a couple of blank spots where there should be bulbs but weren't because i didnt have those options i.e. traction control. but an interesting find...

sorry about the blurry picture but i took it with my phone. see anything that's new? more likely to the lower right? as far as i know...no maxima in the new generations have had this type of option..i know the 300ZX had adjustable suspension and i think the really older gen. maximas had this option too but a 5th gen? i wonder why nissan decided to put that there....any ideas?

(for those of you that may not be able to see it clearly...its green and says sport with a icon of a shock. most definitely referring to adjustable suspension.)

WOW, very interesting find.

I WANT SPORT!

Just add a bulb w/ a switch to the sport light. And tell people you are the only 5th gen. maxima in the nation with the sport option.

is the cluster on ours interchangable with something else that has that option? maybe they just used an exsisting cluster instead of making a new one

Nice find

Now I can fulfill my life long dream!

Seriously, I actually wanted to replace my idiot "OD OFF" light with a sport light. The only time I use the "OD OFF" button is when I am driving spiritedly, so I dont get that anoying upshift when going through turns.

Im no expert with elecrical, but I dont think a rewire to that spot would be too hard. I will have to order my chrome guage rings so I have a reason to rip into my cluster.

Oh $hit!!! Well here is a real downer. Just remembered that the Infiniti guages are different than the Nissan ones I hope I have the same sport light.

Well if anybody else thinks this is a cool idea you should do it and take a pic for me.

what about the one that says SLIP.. I don't have that one either. Is that related to the traction control. I don't have traction control on mine.

As for the Sport one, I remember that light ont he 3rd Gen Max. Wonder if it has simply made it this far.

Btw: I think that it is that particular piece that is not specific to our cars. Not the whole instrument console. They must make that piece for other cars. Just a guess.

slip is for cars w/ traction control. it lights up when the tc is activated and the car loses traction. it cuts fuel to certain cylinders to keep from spinning which is why i always turn mine off.

i noticed that there were alot of empty spaces for bulbs...the "sport" light being one of them

it would be nice if there was a way to make a light, light up once the car revs up to 5000K and engages the VI. whether it be the "sport" light or even like on the M3 where the tach itself lights up from a certain spot all the way to redline. just a few ideas to throw out there.

i wonder if the 3rd, 4th, and the 5.5 gens have this also? wouldnt it be nice if our maximas had adjustable suspension? like having a mini Tein EDFC but with only two settings... stock and sport

it doesnt come on because there's no bulb there. all the models probably have it...just serves no purpose because no 5th gen has OEM adjustable suspension.

thats the mystery...why is it there if it serves no purpose and the cars arent equipped with adjustable suspension.

Mine doesn't have it. A lot of japanese domestic cars had the sport adjustable suspension in the early 90s but why that would be on a maxima cluster is anyone's guess.

I suppose your cluster is unique.

My 85 SE had the adjustable suspension, as far as I know that was the only Maxima with it. Sport was still pretty soft, while Soft was down right mushy...

we has a 2002 Q45 SPORT Edition and there was a button on the dash to change the suspension feel (i guess) when i hit the button the green sport light with the shock would turn on!

I think the sport mode would make the computer shift a little late ( for autos?)? This was you can stay in one gear for a long time without having to upshift and then downshift...

haha, you can THINK the sport mode will do anything...cuz there is no sport mode, and judging from the icon, its for suspension. one would assume that u can just take the bulb/wire that goes to your OD OFF light and position it behind sport.

I was just talking about a rewire from the OD OFF button so that it says sport when you turn off the OD.

Sorry if I confused anyone.

I have a sport selection on my 1990 accord. Its for the transmission (auto). It keeps the RPM's up a little while running around town at slower speeds thereby making the car a little more responsive. Its a button you push in on the gear selector. The word sport lights up on the dash while in this mode.
